TransAlta operates and maintains 6 Power Stations in Western Australia. With a nearly 30-year history in the Western Australia, we provide safe, clean and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers and have invested significantly in stable, long-term contracts.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Operations and Maintenance Technician (OMT) to join our team in the Goldfields Region of Western Australia! Reporting to the Supervisor, North Goldfields and with day-to-day functional interaction and communication with the Regional Control Centre Operators.

The Northern System Operations and Maintenance Technicians will have an overall focus on the safe and efficient Operations and Maintenance of TransAlta’s operating assets in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. The base location for this position is for TransAlta’s Leinster & Mount Keith operating facilities, with regular travel between sites, is primarily day shift with occasional night shift duties and is an 8/6 Fly in Fly out position from Perth. Occasional travel to all operating sites is also a requirement of this position.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Support and contribute to a safe working team environment of open communication and collaboration
Carry out maintenance and planning activities in line with the Work Management Process
Troubleshoot problems with plant equipment for the purpose of supply restoration and minimise downtime
Daily collaboration with Regional Control System Operators on plant performance and daily required maintenance schedule
Undertake projects to optimise plant performance

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:

Mechanical trade qualification
A Valid C class Australian Drivers licence (manual transmission).
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Ability to work safely both independently and in a team environment.
Intermediate computer skills (email, word, spread sheet, and databases) are required.
Must be able to work in hot & cold environments, at heights and within confined spaces.
Working knowledge of and the ability to interpret mechanical, electrical and P&ID drawings, specifications, and wiring diagrams.
Working knowledge of power generation, transmission and distribution.

NICE TO HAVES

The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential:

Experience in Aeroderivative or Heavy-Duty Gas Turbines will be highly regarded.
Experience in Control Systems and PLC.
Experience in reciprocating Engine driven generation.
MR (truck) class preferred.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and driven HV Technician to join our team in the North Goldfields region of Western Australia!

Reporting to the Supervisor, North Goldfields, the High Voltage Technician has an overall focus on the safe and efficient Operations and Maintenance of TransAlta’s generation, transmission and distribution assets in the northern Goldfields region of Western Australia. TransAlta values the safe delivery of clean, reliable power. The base location for this position will either be at TransAlta’s Leinster or Mt Keith operating facilities, is primarily day shift with occasional night shift duties, and is an 8/6 Fly in Fly out (FIFO) position from Perth. Occasional travel to all operating sites is also a requirement of this position. For the best candidate, relocation to Perth will be considered.

HV Switching Operator per 5.18 MSIR 1995
Compliance with all TransAlta Safety Policies, Standards, and Procedures
Maintenance and planning activities in line with the Work Management Process
Planning of Major and routine outages
Planning, organising and delivery of Capital Works Projects
Troubleshoot problems with plant equipment for the purpose of supply restoration
Provide detailed reports during routine maintenance tasks and unplanned maintenance events
Training of new staff members as required
Supervision of contract support staff ensuring safe work standards are maintained
Other duties as required and commensurate with role and qualifications

ABOUT YOU

HV Switching Operator endorsement
Trade Qualified in electrical discipline or higher
Electrical Workers License

ABOUT THE ROLE

TransAlta is seeking two (2) Pit Labourer Summer Students to join our team at the Highvale Mine during the summer term. Reporting to the Supervisor, Operations, the Pit Labourer Summer Student positions support day‑to‑day pit operations and provide hands‑on experience working in an open‑pit mining environment with exposure to mobile equipment and safe work practices.

This is a temporary, safety sensitive position based at our Highvale Mine (SunHills) located just south of Wabamun Lake, approximately 65 kilometers west of Edmonton, Alberta.

This is a USW position covered by the terms of the collective agreement.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Perform general labour duties in the open pit, including housekeeping and work‑area clean‑up
Operate rock truck, and potentially other mobile equipment, as trained and qualified
Conduct pre‑use inspections of mobile equipment and tools
Assist operations personnel with routine pit activities
Work safely around heavy mobile equipment and active mining areas
Install, maintain, and remove safety signage, barricades, and work controls
Assist with upkeep of pit infrastructure, haul roads, and walkways
Load, unload, and transport tools, equipment, and materials
Participate in safety meetings, training, and hazard identification activities
Follow all TransAlta safety, environmental, and operational procedures
Perform other duties as assigned to support pit operations

Currently enrolled in, or returning to, a post‑secondary program following the summer term
Ability to perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions

ABOUT THE ROLE

We currently have an opportunity available on our team for a Labourer. Reporting directly to the Hydro Supervisor, you will assist in operating and maintaining the Seebe and/or Spray plants, based out of the Seebe office, about 80 km west of Calgary. You may also be asked to assist activities at other hydro generating stations within the province.

As a Labourer, you will lead and coordinate activities within a 0-3 month time span and is accountable to ensure the safe, compliant, and reliable operation and maintenance of these Hydro plants.

This role is based out of Seebe, Alberta, and is a full-time safety sensitive position. The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.

Experienced tradespeople interested in joining the Hydro Power industry are welcome to apply.

This is a union position and covered under the terms of the Collective Agreement with the IBEW, Local 254.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Assist operations and maintenance staff to complete routine checks and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment
Assist in the planning, coordination and execution of work
Enter notifications and give feedback and updates on preventative maintenance plans
Interface with Engineering, and other Internal Stakeholders
Maintaining competence and training to perform all work safely
Perform readings of dam safety instrumentation (Hydro Technologist)
Perform physical labour and general plant clean-up duties
Perform operation of equipment; forklift, skid steer, loader etc.
Supervise contractors as per TransAlta contractor supervision procedure
Accountable to complete all administrative tasks as per TransAlta policies, procedures and processes
Responsible to work collaboratively with team, peers, stakeholders and support groups to ensure issues are resolved in a professional and productive manner

ABOUT YOU

This is a senior level position providing business user support in our financial systems and processes as well as planning financial cut over in reorganizations and acquisitions. This is an exciting role that touches every function in our organization, with lots of opportunity for career growth and zero chance of boredom.

This position is based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Provide financial system or process expertise on complex matters from source data to consolidated results.
Build strong relationships with cross‑functional departments to collaborate on system solutions.
Develop detailed workplans and cutover plans to support reorganization activities, including acquisitions, mergers, and consolidation efforts.
Partner on the preparation of financial statements and related financial statement components during transition events.

Maintain SAP system master data and related hierarchies where required.
Deliver necessary system and process training to keep TransAlta users up to date and maintain standards.

ABOUT YOU

An accounting designation and post secondary education with 5+ years of relevant work experience in a financial systems support role.
Solid understanding of IFRS, SOX compliance, and financial statement preparation.
In depth experience with at least 3 of the following SAP modules: AA, AR, AP (VIM), PS, MM, TRM, CLM, BCS (BPC or Group Reporting)
Understanding of the interplay of MM, PM/EAM, SCM, Payroll, and Business Planning on core finance modules (FI/CO) and processes.
In depth experience with complementary tools such as Excel, Analysis for Microsoft Office, Power Query, BI.
Demonstrate substantial experience in daily support operations, along with adaptability and expertise to coordinate integration projects as needed.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a dynamic multi-stakeholder environment.
