ABOUT THE ROLE

 

We are growing our TransAlta team in Boulder, Colorado! We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, and interpersonal individual to join our USA Growth group.

 

  • Do you have a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, data analysis, physics, meteorology, or mathematics?

  • Do you reside near Boulder or would be willing to relocate?

  • Do you have experience in the power business?

 

As the Resource Analyst, you are primarily responsible for:

 

  • Performing wind/solar long-term resource/production evaluations (frequency and time domain) on TransAlta’s US projects

  • Maintaining and organizing TransAlta databases

  • Completing QA/QC of TransAlta’s resource measurement data

  • Supporting the development of an in-house wind/solar resource analysis program

  • Conducting production uncertainty analyses

 

This position is an integral player on the Canadian Growth team and will interact internally with corporate groups such as Land, Insurance, Accounting, Construction, and Legal. This is a full-time salaried position with the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement (days in the office and days at home). 

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO  

 

As the Resource Analyst, USA Growth, you will:

 

  • Model renewable energy development projects

  • Assist the development team with project development activities for renewable energy projects

  • Assist in the preparation of bid packages

  • Evaluate the performance of operational wind farms

  • Perform shadow flicker and noise emission calculations

  • Design turbine layouts to optimize for the lowest cost of energy and project risk

  • Coordinate installations and repair requirements of on-site meteorological data measurement equipment

 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

 

  • Experience in Wind and Solar resource analysis is desirable

  • A Bachelors Degree in physics, mathematics, statistics, engineering, meteorology, or another appropriate technical discipline

  • Solid statistical background, fundamentals, and understanding

  • A basic understanding of wind project economics and optimization would be a plus

  • Exceptional analytical skills using spreadsheets and ability to learn and use software tools.

  • Knowledge of specialized software for resource evaluation modeling (Windographer, OpenWind, WAsP, WindPRO, PVSyst, ArcGIS, etc.) as well as skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

  • The candidate will become knowledgeable in many technologies including solar plants, battery energy storage systems, and all types of renewables

  • Ability to improvise and deliver innovative solutions in the face of conflicting project requirements

 

Other Requirements 

 

  • Ability to travel up to 20%

  • Valid driver's license
