The Accountant, Shared Accounting Services is accountable for supporting the Supervisor with ensuring that accounting for financial transactions are in accordance with company policies, controls, and accounting standards, and that generation financial statements are accurate and complete. This position is to support the transmission business with recording their gross margin and reporting their financial results. This position will lead and support Initiatives to improve processes for Generation accounting and across the Shared Services team. This position is a 12 month temporary contract. 



  • Experience with preparing Transmission reporting and filling to the AUC and the accompanying financial statements such as GTA Filing, Financial Operations Reporting, and DACDA Fillings.
  • Support the Supervisor, Generation G&R by preforming financial transactional activities for the transmission business and provide guidance and clear direction to the business.
  • Conduct month end activities for the Transmission business such as calculating accruals, posting transactions, and reviewing financial results for completeness and accuracy
  • Conduct additional business reporting and tasks such as Net Book Value analysis, preparing documentation for transferring assets into service, and managing the Authorized for Expenditure Process
  • Support the preparation and review of monthly and quarterly SOX controls, account reconciliations, and FRAP requirements.
  • Support audit requests with company's external auditors with respect to the Transmission Business
  • Identify, recommend, and implement both process improvements and best use of reporting tools to improve the efficiency of processes and resulting output of the group.
  • Explain monthly accounting results.




  • CPA and/or pursuing a CPA designation
  • Knowledge and experience in the Alberta Transmission business
  • Knowledge of IFRS as it relates to the Generation business (IFRS 15 and 16)
  • Strong knowledge of financial systems and processes with demonstrated experience in process improvement
  • Strong communication skills bother verbally and written
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Excel, enabling quick and efficient completion of tasks; able to transfer this knowledge and skill to others on the team 
  • Working knowledge of SAP
  • Highly organized, capable of simultaneously managing numerous tasks for both self and staff
