ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta is seeking an intermediate Accountant to join our Accounting & Settlements team, reporting directly to the respective Supervisor of Accounting.
In this role, you will be responsible for preparing monthly accruals, journal entries, and business reports, while supporting the generation of financial statements and meeting reporting requirements. You will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of TransAlta’s financial reporting in alignment with company policies and guidelines.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Ensure accurate and timely monthly accruals

Prepare and present reports and analyses under commercial agreements as required

Post monthly journal entries in the accounting system and prepare supporting account reconciliations in the online tool

Contribute to quarterly reporting processes to support the corporate team in preparing and presenting financial results

Assist with the annual audit process by responding to internal and external audit inquiries

Support the preparation and review of monthly and quarterly SOX controls

Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and optimize reporting tools

Ensure compliance with IFRS, US GAAP, SOX, and TransAlta’s financial policies

Conduct variance analysis and provide insights on financial results

Handle ad hoc requests as needed
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

University degree in accounting or finance
-
CPA designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, or CA) required

Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships

Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite

High attention to detail in all aspects of the role

Ability to drive and lead process improvements within the area of responsibility

Acts as a key resource, collaborating with other teams to resolve issues

Effective time management skills, ensuring work is completed accurately and on schedule

Commitment to best practices and continuous process improvement

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently

Ability to work both independently and as a team player, providing backup support and taking on additional responsibilities to contribute to the success of the Shared Accounting Services department

Experience with SAP is considered an asset
