ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Corporate Planning & Analysis (FP&A), the Analyst, Corporate FP&A is part of a team that plays a crucial role in supporting TransAlta’s leaders to understand their results and develop plans and forecasts to steer the company. As the Analyst, Corporate FP&A, you will be responsible for working with TransAlta’s Corporate business units to analyze current period financial data and prepare reports to assist leaders in understanding their results and preparing their forecasting and budgeting deliverables.
This is a full-time salaried position based at our head office in Downtown Calgary with the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement,
WHAT YOU WILL DO
-
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and variance analysis

Conduct in-depth analysis of financial performance, key performance indicators (KPIs), and variances Assist in the development of annual budgets, including gathering data, creating models, and performing scenario analysis

Collaborate with Corporate business units to prepare and update financial forecasts Prepare regular financial reports, management presentations, and dashboards for senior leadership

Ensure financial reports comply with accounting standards and internal policies applicable to TransAlta Monitor actual financial results against budgets and forecasts, explaining variances and identifying areas for improvement

Create and maintain financial models to support decision-making, scenario planning, and investment analysis Assist in capital expenditure evaluation and return on investment calculations

Provide financial insights to senior management to inform strategic planning and decision-making

Support cross-functional teams in evaluating new business opportunities and initiatives

Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data, collaborating with IT and finance teams as needed

Help implement and maintain financial planning and analysis tools and software Perform ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as requested by management
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field

Master's degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., CFA, CPA) is an asset

Proven experience (3+ years) in financial planning and analysis

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel with strong financial modeling, analysis, and forecasting skills

Experience with dashboards and data visualization

Strong communication, organizational and time management skills

Experience with ERP and planning systems is a plus

Analytical mindset and attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy

Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
