ABOUT THE ROLE

 

The Project Manager for Business Integration is responsible for integrating new utility assets (construction or acquisitions), or strategic projects into TransAlta’s existing operating model (governance, people, processes, contracts, and technology).

 

The role is responsible for defining the Business Integration scope, budget and schedule within the overall Project Development Lifecycle. The Project Manager will create a Project Integration Plan and lead its execution to ultimately provide the handoff to the various business workstreams.

 

Working and facilitating across multiple business workstreams and partnering with cross functional leadership teams will be a key requirement of this role. This will entail driving individual responsibility to get work done, taking ownership of results and lead continuous improvement of integration, execution and handoffs. Providing status and reporting to all levels of the organization will require a candidate with excellent communication, conflict resolution and diplomacy skills.

 

This role will be based at TransAlta’s Calgary Headquarters

 

RESPONSBILITIES 

 

  • Guide integration projects through the integration framework
  • Develop Integration Project Charter
  • Develop Project Integration Plan which includes combining all the Business Workstreams’ plans, and construction’s overall plan
  • Develop cost estimates with the Business Workstreams
  • Manage and monitor execution of the Project Integration Plan
  • Manage the interdependencies of the Project Integration Plan
  • Report on progress, budget, schedule, safety and quality
  • Provide updates and works closely with the development, construction, and operation teams to meet deadlines and contract requirements.
  • Proactively manage and resolve day to day issues as they arise
  • Identify, manage and mitigate risks with a Risk Log on a regular basis
  • Close out projects using a handoff process and capture lessons learned for continuous improvement
  • Challenge the status quo for continuous improvement and streamline processes
  • Other responsibilities as required
  • Some travel maybe required to sites

 

ABOUT YOU 

 

We are looking for a motivated Project Manager who is inspired to work collaboratively with others across our organization. To be successful in the role, here are the must-have qualifications and experience: 

 

  • 5+ years’ showing cross-functional awareness and/or delivering transformational projects
  • Multi-discipline knowledge through work experiences (Areas include Accounting, Commercial, Engineering, Finance, IT, Maintenance, Operations).
  • PMP designation or willing to work towards a PMP
  • Strong business acumen
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills, and computer skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote, Sharepoint etc)
  • Able to create and deliver presentations across all levels of the organization
  • Able to lead through influencing
  • Facilitate group meetings and workshops, and communicate with all types of audiences

  • Post secondary (Accounting, Administration, Business, Commercial, Engineering, Finance, IT, Maintenance, Operations, Sciences) or designations are an asset.
  • Ability to understand contracts
  • Asset or Business Integration experience
  • Merger & Acquisitions and/or Divestitures experience
  • Joint Venture experience
  • Operations and/or maintenance experience
  • Change Management / Guidance / Adoption experience
