We are currently looking to hire a Corporate Paralegal, either on a permanent full-time or part-time basis. You will be a key member of the Corporate Secretary team working closely with our other corporate paralegal, the corporate legal team, the executive office, and the Board of Directors, to provide the highest quality work product for the company and each of its subsidiaries. 


You will have the option for hybrid or permanent remote work, provided that you will be in the Calgary head office for the probationary period and upon request. 




Right from the start, you will be accountable for (with the appropriate training):


  • Preparing for and facilitating Board and shareholder meetings;
  • Preparing and submitting corporate filings (including Annual Information Form, Management Proxy Circular, prospectus filings, insider reporting, annual and quarterly financial reporting, etc.);
  • Supporting the business units in respect of their corporate-related inquiries or transactions;
  • Working collaboratively with the team to share your corporate knowledge and take the initiative to identify process improvements; and
  • Providing meaningful support in achieving the Corporation's corporate governance goals. 


Other responsibilities include: 


  • Drafting documentation, including for various corporate transactions such as incorporations, amalgamations, reorganizations, amendments of charter documents, dividend declarations, intercompany agreements, director compensation, etc.;
  • Maintaining the necessary paper and electronic documentation and filings for the subsidiaries of TransAlta so each of the subsidiaries is in good standing in the jurisdictions in which they carry on business, including filing all annual returns;
  • Maintaining the corporate minute books of TransAlta and its subsidiaries; and
  • Performing certain administrative functions such as the opening, classification, and maintenance of the corporate secretarial department records, the completion of expense reports, and such other administrative duties as may be required to support the Corporate Secretary team.




  • Prior experience as a Corporate Paralegal with a reporting issuer would be preferred, although this experience is not necessary, as we are willing to provide training for the role; 
  • Experienced paralegals with knowledge of corporate legislation, and securities law, and experience with corporate documents in Alberta and other Canadian jurisdictions are encouraged to apply; 
  • Ability to work with a high degree of professionalism, confidentiality, discretion, integrity, accountability, and independence. Attention to detail, a strong work ethic, problem-solving skills, together with self-composure, a sense of urgency, resilience in the face of change or feedback, and a positive attitude are important attributes for success in this role;
