ABOUT THE ROLE
An exciting and challenging role within TransAlta’s counterparty credit management function that supports our growth, commercial, supply chain, and commodity trading activities. As a Credit Advisor you will utilize your senior-level talent to review, recommend, and negotiate contractual credit terms across a range of contract types. The position will also perform counterparty credit assessments, and other credit operation functions as required.
This position is based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Deliver clear, actionable credit risk assessments for counterparties
- Negotiate credit terms in complex agreements such as power purchase (PPA), long term purchase (PSA) and sale agreements (LTSA) as well as engineering, procurement and construction agreements (EPC)
- Analyse credit exposure for commodity trading contracts and recommend limits
- Set and manage credit/tenor limits and collateral in TransAlta’s system of record
- Review and approve credit limit requests for deals, auctions, and trading activity
- Ensure compliance with approved exposure limits and contractual terms
- Provide flexible support across the Credit team to maintain operational excellence
- Act as a trusted advisor on risk mitigation strategies and credit best practices
ABOUT YOU
- 7+ years of relevant work experience in a credit, financial analysis or related role
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field. A professional designation (e.g., CFA, CPA, MBA) would be an asset
- Demonstrated ability, to review and negotiate credit and collateral terms within commodity trading and various industry contracts (e.g., PPA, PSA, LTSA and EPC)
- Comprehensive understanding of different types of collateral, including letters of credit, surety bonds, and parental guarantees
- Proficiency in counterparty credit and statement analysis, including the ability to calculate and interpret financial metrics and ratings
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a dynamic multi-stakeholder environment
- Strong attention to detail, time management skills and a demonstrated ability to prioritize time sensitive deliverables with minimal supervision
