The Dam Safety Engineer intern will support the dam safety team with issues related to the hydro civil structures across Alberta. The position requires someone with an interest in geological engineering and water resources. The role will offer the intern experience with our dams and civil structures, geotechnical instrumentation monitoring system and public safety program. The position will be based out of our Calgary Head Office with up to 20% of the time in the field (travel to site as required).



Our Dam Safety Intern will be accountable for the following:


  • Geotechnical instrumentation auditing
  • Dam safety data and drawing collation
  • Public safety control assessment and mapping
  • Construction supervision
  • Maintenance of an action list of identified deficiencies and tasks
  • Day-to-day technical support and collaborative work with the Dam Safety Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, operations staff, and project managers



Our Dam Safety Intern should meet or exceed the following:


  • Third of fourth year student of B.Sc. in Civil or Geological Engineering
  • Hydro generation experience is desirable, but not a prerequisite 
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Proficient user MS Office Suite, especially in Excel
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and take initiative
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision alone and as a team member
  • Knowledge of geotechnical instrumentation is desirable, but not a prerequisite
  • Agree to participate in a wage subsidy program offered to environmental employers
