ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a motivated Dam Safety Engineering Student to join our team for a 12 to 16-month term. This position is based out of our Calgary Head Office and involves up to 20% travel to various field locations. The successful candidate will support our dam safety team, contributing to the safe and effective operation of our dam infrastructure. This role is considered safety sensitive therefore pre-employment testing is required.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Provide general support to engineers, project managers and technicians within the dam safety group.
- Perform a variety of tasks, which may include inspections of dam structures, geotechnical instrumentation monitoring, support of surveillance activities (dive inspection, animal control, vegetation control), public safety assessment, desk studies, dam safety program control and field work.
- Apply technical skills using software such as Microsoft Excel, PowerBI, Sharepoint, Global Mapper and Powerpoint.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Third- or fourth-year student in an accredited Canadian Bachelor’s in Geological, or Civil Engineering.
- Interest in a career in geotechnical engineering, dams, and sustainable energy.
- Valid Alberta’s driver’s licence.
- Experience driving in off-road conditions, gravel roads, inclement weather, in mountainous environments, and around equipment.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Well organized with an ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage your own time, work independently and within a team.
- A positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and take initiative.
- Agree to participate in a wage subsidy program offered to environmental employers.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Successful completion of pre-employment testing is a condition of employment.
