ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a motivated Dam Safety Engineering Student to join our team for a 12-to 16-month term. The successful candidate will work closely with the dam safety team, supporting initiatives that ensure the safe and efficient operation of our dam infrastructure.
This is a full-time position, 12-16 month term, based out of our Head Office in Downtown Calgary, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule and occasional travel to the dam sites.
As this role is safety-sensitive, the successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Provide general support to engineers, project managers and technicians within the Dam Safety group.
- Perform a variety of tasks, which may include inspections of dam structures, geotechnical instrumentation monitoring, support of surveillance activities (dive inspection, animal control, vegetation control), public safety assessment, desk studies, dam safety program control and field work.
- Apply technical skills using software such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, SharePoint, Global Mapper and PowerPoint.
ABOUT YOU
- Third or fourth-year student enrolled in an accredited Canadian Bachelor’s program in Geological, or Civil Engineering.
- Interest in a career in geotechnical engineering, dams, and sustainable energy.
- Valid Alberta’s driver’s license.
- Experience driving in off-road conditions, gravel roads, inclement weather, in mountainous environments, and around equipment.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Well organized with an ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage your own time, work independently and within a team.
- A positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and take initiative.
- Agree to participate in a wage subsidy program offered to environmental employers.
OTHER DETAILS
- This position requires moderate travel (up to 20%) to hydro sites across Canada. Some sites have terrain that may be considered challenging.
