ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

We are looking for a dedicated Emissions Specialist to join our Asset Management team! This role exists to ensure TransAlta's Operations compliance reporting to external agencies is validated, accurate and meets external requirements. this includes environmental reporting focusing on emissions reporting including offset, credits, and funds. Remote Work is available for this role.  This role is a temporary 12-month position based out of our Head Office in Downtown Calgary, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.  

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO  

 

  • Identify and communicate all reporting requirements to Operations; including defining any required data or evidence, reporting templates and forms.   
  • Work collaboratively with Operations, collect and analyze all required data to ensure its accuracy; and manipulate and compile necessary data to meet corporate and external reporting requirements
  • Act as subject matter expert on all audit processes including regulatory and verification audits and as primary point of contact with auditors, and ensure necessary personnel within Operations are engaged within the process, managing all reporting and submissions required over the course of the audit
  • Act as the TransAlta’s primary representative to external auditors and commercial partners regarding environmental reporting and associated calculations ensuring Operations is fully represented as required in these calculations
  • Calculate and provide on agreed to schedules forecasts of environmental calculations to Operations, Finance and Trading
  • Provide ongoing advice to management regarding specific environmental emission issues
  • Ensure that environmental regulatory changes that affect operations are addressed.
  • Support delivery of renewable energy crediting applications are completed to maximize the value of the for the organization
  • Maintain strong relationships and information exchange with local, provincial and federal regulators to ensure TransAlta’s business plans are consistent with regulatory requirements and represent TransAlta on various government and industry working groups.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable regulations, conduct regulatory assessments, and provide regulatory interpretations and guidance
  • Assist with the development and execution of implementation strategies for environmental emission policies, procedures, and regulations’
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining tools for tracking emission related environmental compliance for Operations facilities
  • Develop, review, and maintain records required to demonstrate compliance with environmental requirements with a focus on emissions tracking
  • Continue to drive automation of data collection and some emissions calculations

 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU  

 

  • Engineering or Environmental degree (chemical, environmental, etc.) with 5+ years of experience, or Technologist with 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Understanding of environmental and compliance reporting
  • Experience in verification audits and/or other audit experience
  • A strong understanding of regulations related to power plant operations
  • Ability to establish and work with complex Excel spreadsheets
  • Ability to understand and apply government acts, regulations and guidance’s
  • Good communication skills with the ability to provide clear, concise training for the gas fleet as required
  • Ability to work confidentially with external regulatory bodies and agencies
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders within the organization
