ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently looking for a full-time early career level Finance Analyst, Treasury & Capital Markets to join our Finance team at our Head Office in downtown Calgary.
In this dynamic role, the Finance Analyst, Treasury & Capital Markets will support a broad range of treasury-related initiatives, including corporate funding strategies and financial risk management. The successful candidate will provide key analytical support for treasury and capital markets activities, including financial modeling and analysis to inform corporate credit ratings.
The role will be involved in executing strategic projects such as public and private debt and equity offerings, negotiating bank credit facilities, and project-level debt structuring. A strong understanding of financial instruments is essential, as responsibilities also include managing foreign exchange and interest rate exposures, executing hedging strategies, coordinating hedge accounting activities, and overseeing day-to-day treasury operations.
The position would suit an early career professional with 1-2 years of work experience and is an excellent opportunity to be a key contributor in the growth of TransAlta’s business and advancing TransAlta’s strategy of becoming a low cost, low emissions power generation company.
WHAT YOU WILL DO

Support the execution and delivery of treasury projects, including capital and bank funding, and private debt placements

Develop and maintain financial models to support financing decisions and broader treasury activities
-
Assist with due diligence for financing transactions and strategic initiatives

Execute foreign exchange and interest rate hedging programs in line with corporate risk management strategies

Prepare materials for fixed income investors and credit rating agencies

Provide analytical support for a variety of treasury activities, including new product launches, growth initiatives, funding strategies, ratio sensitivity analyses, budgeting, liquidity planning, audit responses, and preparation of board and pension committee materials

Support ad hoc treasury projects and respond to financial information requests as needed
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Finance, Commerce, Accounting, or a related business discipline

1–2 years of relevant experience, ideally in Corporate Finance

Completion of or progress toward a professional designation (CFA or MBA) preferred

Experience in the power or energy industry is an asset

Strong financial analysis and modeling skills

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial systems

Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines

Self-starter with the ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing work assignments and priorities

Knowledge of capital markets, foreign exchange and interest rate risk management, and credit rating methodologies

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively across teams at all organizational levels
