ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Maintenance Reliability Specialist at TransAlta, you will strengthen Maintenance and Reliability programs across a diverse generation portfolio. This role focuses on developing data-driven maintenance strategies, standardized asset frameworks, and the governance, tools, and analytics needed to drive long-term performance.

You will partner closely with Engineering, Operations, Asset Management, and Work Management teams, while assessing current-state capabilities and supporting the business case for future digital and predictive maintenance enablement.

This is a full-time, safety sensitive position based out of our Calgary head office.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • You bring strong experience in reliability engineering, maintenance optimization, or asset management within complex, asset‑intensive environments
  • You are skilled in structured reliability methodologies such as RCM, FMEA, asset strategy libraries, and standardized maintenance frameworks
  • You can interpret asset performance data to identify failure patterns, degradation trends, and reliability risks
  • You have a proven ability to optimize maintenance strategies to improve asset life, availability, and cost effectiveness
  • You are comfortable baselining existing asset and maintenance strategies and translating insights into standardized, scalable frameworks
  • You collaborate effectively with engineers, planners, operations, and site teams to operationalize asset strategies
  • You have hands‑on experience enabling strategies within enterprise systems such as SAP
  • You are highly analytical and experienced in developing dashboards, KPIs, and reporting to support data‑driven decisions
  • You understand asset criticality concepts and can help define and standardize health indicators for critical assets
  • You can assess maintenance maturity and identify opportunities for predictive and performance‑based maintenance
  • You bring a strong understanding of data architecture, integration, and governance as they relate to reliability outcomes
  • You are comfortable contributing to maintenance budget strategy, balancing routine, preventive, and optimization investments
  • You have experience establishing governance, work controls, and performance management frameworks
  • You balance corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance to optimize full asset lifecycle performance

 

ABOUT YOU

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent education and experience in maintenance and reliability
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the renewables or utility sector in reliability, maintenance, or operations
  • Strong experience in maintenance strategy development (RCM, FMEA, Asset Criticality, Failure Analysis)
  • Experience working within S/4HANA Plant Maintenance modules
  • Experience in data analytics, asset performance reporting, and reliability dashboards
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance techniques and condition monitoring systems
  • Understanding of asset lifecycle management and reliability frameworks
  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to translate technical analysis into business case development and executive-ready recommendations
