ABOUT THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Finance Manager to join our TransAlta team! The Manager of Shared Finance Services provides leadership to a team of accountants, settlements analysts, and other finance professionals. This leader also provides enterprise leadership and works very closely with the Controller, VP Strategic Finance, and Chief Financial Officer.
As a key member of the Finance leadership team, you will support the business by providing financial guidance on day-to-day operations in accordance with GAAP and corporate policy while building and executing an operational strategy that is in line and will assist the Company to achieve the wider Company objectives. These services include ensuring transactions are recorded on an accurate, complete, and timely basis, performing and ensuring compliance with controls, implementing new financial processes (as a result of new growth, commercial and financial agreements) in compliance with company policies and procedures, providing both internal management and external analysis and reporting, financial planning and supporting business analysis. You will also be accountable for the following accounting functions and will lead the team to ensure they continue to deliver relevant business outcomes: General Accounting, Settlements Accounting (Revenue Recognition), and Energy Marketing Accounting.
This position is based at our head office in Downtown Calgary.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Lead, manage, and inspire a team of finance professionals
- Create and implement a performance-driven culture that encourages staff to develop their skills and excel in their roles

Analyse business processes, identify opportunities, and drive projects to improve processes and systems

Lead the finance shared services integration activities associated with acquisitions, new contracts, partnerships and changes in accounting standards

Ensure financial processes are in compliance with company policies and procedures, including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Sarbanes Oxley and all other local and international statutory and regulatory requirements

Collaborate with the leadership across the organization to achieve the company’s goals including bringing insights and ideas to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the business

Collaborate and coordinate with the Finance Organizations on the financial close, monthly and quarterly financial reporting and analysis and implementing projects

Keep informed of industry and regulatory environment and prepare the finance shared services function to respond efficiently and effectively to changes

Develop and publish comprehensive reporting on key KPIs that measure Shares Services performance

Provide support for internal and external audits

Review Authorization for Expenditures (AFE) requests

Build and nurture a high-performance team culture, ensuring the team has the required specialization and skills and is adequately resourced and right sized to deliver work

Responsible for leading multiple teams of accounting professionals, provide training, mentoring opportunities and developing a strong professional bench
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or equivalent practical experience

Professional Accounting or Finance designation
-
Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience

In-depth knowledge of financial systems and processes, coupled with significant experience in controls management and working knowledge of SAP

Extensive knowledge of IFRS principles and their application in a large multi-national organization

Experience in identifying opportunities for improving operational and financial performance while ensuring the quality and integrity of the financial functions of the operations

Highly motivated leader manager with exceptional communication and organizational skills

Demonstrated expertise in project management with a track record of delivering successful outcomes on time and within budget

Proficient in productivity and workload management, with the ability to identify and prioritize tasks effectively

Skilled in strategic planning and execution, with a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving

Capable of simultaneously managing numerous tasks for both self and staff

Effective problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret information and translate requirements into implementation efforts

Demonstrated professional judgment and initiative in everyday work, ensuring team members resolvesues in a timely manner

Willing to be flexible when needed in order to respond to emergency situations outside of normal business hours
