ABOUT THE ROLE

 

The Alberta Energy Trading and Portfolio Management team is hiring an Originator to support TransAlta’s generation portfolio. This position requires analytical support on the day-to-day deliverables of the team in addition to special project work. The role also requires the ability to actively manage the physical portfolio in a real-time capacity.

 

This is a full-time salaried position and is based out of our Head Office in Downtown Calgary.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

  • Delivering key financial results
  • Growing the customer business, introducing New Commercial Initiatives (NCI’s) and transacting standard and/or structured products (i.e., swaps, options, heat rate options)
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a 1-2 year Origination and Mid-Marketing business plan
  • Managing risk and creating value for a broad range of energy products, cross commodities and overall customer solutions
  • Facilitating internal deal approval responsibility for origination deals
  • Building and maintaining TransAlta’s customer relationships and effectively representing TransAlta as the Originator for the Alberta Markets
  • Supporting and maintaining a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) System for Origination (i.e., Sales Force)
  • Providing back-up analytical support for the Alberta Analyst as required
  • Providing analytical support on special project work
  • Optimizing the asset position on a real-time coverage schedule including weekends, evenings, and statutory holidays

 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

 

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:

 

  • Master’s degree or equivalent preferred – will consider Undergraduate University Degree or College Diploma or Significant Industry Experience in Human Relations and Communications
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in customer management and or Energy Marketing
  • Excellent understanding of the Alberta power and natural gas markets
  • Risk Management experience
  • Ability to understand a complex portfolio of risk using both standard and non-standard financial instruments
  • Team Environment - work alongside a team of high-performing technical experts towards a common shared goal
  • Ability to identify areas of growth and develop and implement plans/actions to achieve that growth
  • Ability to identify risk and take the appropriate actions in a timely manner
