ABOUT THE ROLE

 

TransAlta is seeking a Project Manager, REM Implementation to join our REM Implementation Team.

 

Reporting to the Director, REM Implementation, this role leads the planning and delivery of projects required to prepare TransAlta to operate under Alberta's Restructured Energy Market (REM). The position coordinates cross-functional work involving Operations, Energy Trading, Asset Management, Regulatory, Legal, IT and Cybersecurity and is accountable for integrating scope, schedule, cost, risk, dependencies, governance and organizational readiness.

 

This is a full-time position based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.

 

A DAY IN THE LIFE

 

  • Lead assigned REM implementation projects through initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, transition and closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project charters, integrated project plans, schedules, budgets, resource requirements, decision logs and governance materials.
  • Coordinate cross-functional implementation workstreams and align scope, milestones, dependencies, risks, issues and decision points.
  • Track REM ISO Rule implementation requirements and ensure project deliverables support operational, commercial, regulatory, technology and compliance readiness.
  • Identify, assess and manage project risks, issues, assumptions, constraints and interdependencies; escalate material items with clear options and recommendations.
  • Coordinate readiness activities, including process changes, systems updates, testing, controls, training, communications and transition to operations.
  • Provide accurate status reporting on scope, schedule, cost, risks, decisions and readiness to the Director and relevant governance forums.
  • Lead through influence by coordinating subject matter experts, workstream owners and functional contributors across the organization.
  • Facilitate project meetings, working sessions, decision forums and readiness discussions, ensuring actions and outcomes are documented and followed through.
  • Work closely with Operations, Energy Trading, Asset Management, Regulatory, Legal, IT, Cybersecurity, Compliance and Finance to support successful REM implementation.

 

ABOUT YOU

 

  • University degree in Business, Engineering, Information Systems or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive project management experience delivering complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience managing scope, schedule, cost, risk, dependencies, governance and stakeholder communications.
  • Experience delivering projects involving new systems, business processes, regulatory requirements or operational change.
  • Knowledge of Alberta's electricity market, utility operations or regulated environments is preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, or progress toward the designation, is preferred.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to connect regulatory and technical requirements to operational outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and coordinate subject matter experts across multiple functions.
  • Strong facilitation, conflict-resolution, negotiation and decision-support skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including concise reporting for senior leaders.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, competing priorities and time-sensitive deliverables with limited supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project planning and collaboration tools.
  • Demonstrated judgment in handling confidential, regulatory or commercially sensitive information.
