ABOUT THE ROLE

TransAlta is currently looking to hire a Real Time Trader, East, reporting directly to the Manager, East Cash & FTR Trading.  This position is core to the East Short Time desk which requires working shift work with an on-call obligation. You will be accountable to manage our Generation Assets in the Eastern markets (Canada & USA) which provides a service and mitigates risk through diligent work habits and compliance.

This role is based out of our Calgary head office.  This is a full-time, office-based role.

This role will require working 11 and 8 hour shifts (7:00 am to 6:00am starts) with additional on-call support.  Shift schedule will consist of 4 days on and 4 days off (subject to change).

A DAY IN THE LIFE

• Manage Eastern Asset offers, outages and first contact 24/7 with the ISO’s and RTO’s
• Manage Energy Management Agreements (EMA’s) where we provide 24/7 support
• Manage relationships with new and existing Trading and EMA customers
• Deliver financials results as per annual East Short Term Trader plan
• Create growth opportunities with new customers or in markets where we trade (IESO, NYISO, PJM, MISO, ISNE and SPP)
• Support the entire East desk with all power scheduling and deal management requests
• Work with cross functional teams (Risk, Settlement and Credit groups) to resolve all trade or financial discrepancies related to the Eastern business
• Accountable for all personal trade execution and accurate deal capture

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:

• Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Engineering, Economics, Mathematics or Computer Science
• 5+ years related market and trading experience
• Ability to process information and make decisions in a timely fashion
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with counterparts and customers
• Demonstrated ability to effectively make educated decisions under pressure
