As part of the Strategic Finance and Investor Relations team, the Advisor, Investor Relations will be accountable for investor relations activities to sustain and enhance the TransAlta and TransAlta Renewables’ long-term relationship with investors and financial stakeholder community.  This position will assist in driving the development and implementation of the investor relations strategy, developing and communicating key   messages to the investment community on behalf of the company, and for monitoring and synthesizing financial market trends, industry trends and company and peer investment performance to management.



  • Review and contribute to all publicly disseminated financial disclosure events and documents, including press releases, conference calls, annual reports, MD&As, proxies and AIFs
  • Assist with planning and execution of quarterly conference calls, webcasts, and investor events
  • Create, and facilitate the production of investor relations marketing materials, presentations and Q&A documents
  • Coordinate arrangements and logistics for IR marketing activities including roadshows, one-on-one meetings and conferences
  • Produce regular and adhoc reports for the Company’s executive leadership team regarding competitive intelligence, security analysts’ positions and summaries, relative stock price movements, shareholder ownership analytics, investor perceptions, corporate valuation metrics, etc.
  • Liase with institutional investors and sell side analysts and serve as company spokesperson for financial and business-related matters with investors (telephone and e-mail)
  • Track and analyze sell-side analyst valuation and forecasting models used to value the company and competitor financial performance and assess any gaps/alignment to internal views
  • Track and maintain all investor information and communications in contact management databases
  • Collaborate in executing the investor relations program, including strategy, investor marketing objectives, targeting long-term investors and other investor relations goals




  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), or Chartered Accountant (CA)
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience in finance, accounting, communications, Investor Relations, equity research or other related areas
  • Advance knowledge of MSOffice, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Wdesk
  • Understanding of capital markets, and corporate finance
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, financial analysis financial metrics, and valuation concepts
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and projects in a detailed and organized manner
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information (both written and verbal) in a simple, concise and elegant manner
  • Skilled with developing presentations that synthesize key concepts succinctly, and graphically with visual appeal
  • Experience with shareholder activism, disclosure/integrated reporting, and proxy advisory firms is an asset
