ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta is seeking a results‑driven Senior Advisor, Reliability Compliance to join the Reliability Compliance team and play a key role in advancing the organization’s commitment to safe, reliable, and compliant operations.
Reporting to the Manager, Compliance, the Senior Advisor, Reliability Compliance is primarily responsible for coordinating the implementation of new NERC reliability standards. This includes both Operations & Planning (O&P) and Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards. This role works collaboratively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the organization’s readiness for new standards.
This is full-time salaried position based out of our Head Office in Downtown Calgary, AB, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Actively monitor NERC standard development; gather internal stakeholder feedback and provide comments to NERC standard drafting teams as necessary
- Assess proposed changes and identify compliance gaps to new and revised standards
- Support the Manager in developing project scope and identifying resource requirements to comply with new and revised standards
- Coordinate execution of activities by Operations and external contractors
- Gather and verify compliance evidence to ensure it complies with the measures identified in NERC standards
- Prepare Reliability Standards Audit Worksheets (RSAWs) in support of future self-certifications and audits
- Update existing internal processes and procedures to reflect the new and revised standards
- Support the development and delivery of training and awareness on new and revised standards to Compliance Delegates
- Support other Reliability Compliance Advisors in updating TransAlta’s internal controls to reflect new and revised standards
- Escalate any risks to on-time implementation to the Manager in a timely manner
- Provide clear and consistent status reports to internal stakeholders
ABOUT YOU
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or experience in Engineering, Economics, Business, Law, or a related field
- Previous experience working with NERC or Alberta reliability standards is required
- 7 + years’ experience in a regulatory or compliance environment is preferred
- Project coordination or project management experience is considered a strong asset
- Project engineering experience or similar technical backgrounds are considered strong assets
- Robust ethics coupled with respect for the highest compliance standard
- Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders including senior management
- Ability to work cross-functionally across the organization to effectively solve problems
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing
- Capable of handling numerous priorities and meeting expected deadlines
