ABOUT THE ROLE
Join an award-winning Corporate Strategy and Investor Relations team at the centre of TransAlta’s engagement with capital markets. As the Senior Analyst, Investor Relations, you will help shape how the Company’s strategy, performance and capital allocation are communicated to investors and the financial stakeholder community. This position will assist in driving the development and implementation of the investor relations strategy, developing an applied message to the investment community on behalf of the company, and monitoring and synthesizing financial market trends, industry trends, and company and peer investment performance to management.
You will work closely with senior leaders across the organization, contribute to quarterly disclosure and investor events, and turn complex financial, industry and market information into clear, decision-useful insights. This is an opportunity to build broad exposure to corporate strategy, finance and the evolving power sector while having a visible impact on TransAlta’s market positioning and investor relationships.
This position is based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Assist in shaping and executing TransAlta’s investor relations program, including strategy, investor marketing objectives, targeting long-term investors, and other investor relations goals
- Deliver market intelligence to the Company’s executive leadership team regarding competitive intelligence from security analysts’ positions and summaries, relative stock price movements, shareholder ownership analytics and investor perceptions
- Provide financial analysis including corporate valuation metrics, current financial information and other market and peer analysis
- Coordinate the quarterly earnings process and preparation of disclosure materials, schedules, third-party vendor requirements and the distribution of press releases as a part of the larger Investor Relations team
- Track and analyze sell-side analyst valuation and forecasting models used to value the company and competitor financial performance and assess any gaps/alignment to internal views
- Track and maintain investor information and communications in contact management databases
- Engage directly with investors and analysts for financial and business-related matters
- Develop, create, and facilitate the production of investor relations marketing materials and presentations
- Review and contribute to all publicly disseminated financial disclosure events and documents, including press releases, conference calls, annual reports, MD&As, proxies, and AIFs
- Support the team as required with the Company’s marketing plan and administration of Investor Relations event calendar including conferences, roadshows, shareholder engagement,
ABOUT YOU
- Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance
- CFA or CPA professional designation is considered an asset
- 5+years of business experience in Investor Relations, equity research, corporate finance or other related areas
- Advanced proficiency in core office programs (i.e. MS Office Suite) and capable of learning key position specific applications
- Familiarity with FactSet, Bloomberg, Capital Access or similar capital markets platforms is a benefit along with capability to apply artificial intelligence
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of capital markets, financial disclosure and accounting practices
- Ability to effectively communicate equity and capital market sentiments and activity
- Strong understanding of financial statements and external/internal financial metrics
- Strong understanding of valuation concepts, financial analysis, and reporting skills
- Ability to communicate complex financial information (both written and verbal) in a simple, concise, clear and compelling manner
- Proven ability to prioritize, organize and project manage while operating in a high-profile, highly dynamic environment with evolving priorities that require a flexible mindset
- Aptitude for design and creating visual presentations with high levels of brand identity and consistency in design standards across collateral
- Familiarity with power generation and utilities sectors is preferred
