About the Role:

 

TransAlta is currently seeking an experience Senior Contracts Specialist to join our Supply Chain Management team. As the Sr. Contracts Specialist, you are responsible for a variety of Generation Projects and Operation & Maintenance services. The prime focus of the role is to drive cost efficiency to increase profitability of existing and new assets. The role is accountable for developing and executing sourcing strategies, negotiations and administering executed contracts to secure and preserve value.

 

You are responsible for the strategic sourcing, contracting and management of a various engineering, procurement, construction and fabrication services for sustaining and operational projects. This would include, but not limited to, legal contracting and negotiation strategy, risk identification/mitigation, negotiation; preparation and oversight of competitive bid process, documents, and contracts to acquire external services. The acquisitions are guided by legislation and the established policies, procedures and guidelines as required by TransAlta. The role is also accountable for the contract management and administration of services required in support of the operation and maintenance of TransAlta’s assets globally and ensuring goods and/or services availability and lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) from critical and routine contractors.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the full start to completion Supplier Lifecycle Management, including managing strategic supplier/contractor relationships, establishing, and reporting operating metrics and scorecards, KPI compliance, performance reviews and recommendations, continuous improvement, and supplier support
  • Responsible to develop and manage strategic sourcing strategies on various engineering, procurement, construction and fabrication services for operations and maintenance.
  • Responsible to lead and manage EPC contractors along with providing support and oversight on activities and processes.
  • Responsible for the development of the overall strategic plans, tendering, evaluation, negotiations, award and contract formation with a focus on achieving savings and reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
  • Design and implement strategies and mitigation plans to respond to identified supply chain, commercial, contractual and supplier risks and claim exposure
  • Manage the bid process by planning bid activities, optimizing the collaboration of the cross-discipline evaluation teams, ensuring the efficiency of the process and the quality of the evaluation
  • Responsible for determining the most appropriate compensation strategy such as Lump Sum, Unit Rate, Cost Reimbursable, Performance Incentive (Risk/Reward) for various projects delivery methods
  • Responsible for the post-award contract administration, including change management and settlement of major claims and disputes, contractual levers and obligations of the parties
  • Build trust and strong relationships with key, cross-functional stakeholders and business sponsors through competency, collaboration, integrity, and transparency

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business with a focus on Supply Chain Management is preferred
  • Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation (preferably), or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 years' of experience in supply chain management and capital project procurement
  • Demonstrated knowledge of capital projects, different EPC/EPCM contracting models, respective challenges, risk and opportunities
  • Strong knowledge of all SCM functions, including strategic sourcing, contract management and purchasing
  • Solid understanding of contract and competitive bid law, and contract formation.
  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, interpersonal, and customer service.
