ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta is seeking a Senior Engineer, Advanced Monitoring and Diagnostics (AM&D), to support the setup, operation, and multi-year growth of our AM&D function. The successful candidate will play a crucial role not only in the operation of the AM&D function, but the development, implementation, monitoring, upkeep, and growth of function overall. This role will optimize reliability, maintenance costs, risk, and performance through the development of diagnostic systems, processes, and strategies for our critical assets.
This individual will successfully engage centralized and field-based engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to validate findings, diagnose issues, and drive action.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Analyze system data to identify trends, anomalies, and potential issues
- Engage with centralized and field subject matter experts to support the validation, diagnosis, and recommended actions for developing issues
- Support the implementation of TransAlta’s new Advanced Monitoring & Diagnostics capability
- Participate in the mapping and development of the AM&D function into key TransAlta processes (example: work management)
- Support capabilities development and technology evaluations
- Support implementation and development of M&D software
- Lead the analysis and stakeholder agreement of AM&D value creation and deploy and report on appropriate KPI’s
- Work with technical experts to develop of condition monitoring and data analytics strategies to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
- Develop multi-year instrumentation plans to support condition monitoring strategies
- Execute change management plan in conjunction with the AM&D implementation lead
- Collaborate with other teams to integrate monitoring solutions into existing systems.
- Conduct regular reviews and updates of monitoring and diagnostic systems to ensure continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with vendors and external partners for the procurement and integration of monitoring tools.
- Make TransAlta a leader in the monitoring and diagnostic field through engagement and collaboration with industry peers and working groups
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field. Preference is for a candidate with a mechanical or electrical engineering background, but other applicants will be considered.
- Registered, or eligible for registration, with APEGA (Alberta) as a Professional Engineer (PEng)
- A minimum of 5-7 years of years of Engineering experience in power generation or related field with experience in maintenance and operations troubleshooting in operating plants
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey complex topics collaborate with cross-functional teams, and present findings/recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly build trust in relationships with internal and external counterparts
- Experience with analysis of large data sets and development of custom analytics is considered an asset
- Experience with condition-based monitoring technologies and analysis of condition-based monitoring data (vibration, lube oil, transformer oil) is considered an asset
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advocate for and influence outcomes.
- Strong sense of curiosity with a passion for discovering new solutions
- Proficient in core office programs (i.e.: MS office) and capable of learning key position specific applications.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
