ABOUT THE ROLE

 

As a Senior Tax Advisor, you’ll be involved in all aspects of Canadian Corporate Tax for a multi-national business, making this a role where your expertise truly matters.

 

In this critical position, you will drive the review and preparation of income tax provisions and returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance, collaborate across functions – working closely with accounting, legal, finance, and treasury teams to deliver strategic tax solutions and influence key decisions by providing insights that support business growth and financial performance.

 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Tax, this role offers exposure to complex tax matters and the chance to make a real impact in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

 

This position is based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule and an employer that prioritizes the work-life balance and mental well-being of its employees.

 

 

A DAY IN THE LIFE

 

  • Review and preparation of Canadian tax provisions and analysis for external financial statement purposes.
  • Review and preparation of the Canadian corporate and partnership income tax returns and other related filings.
  • Lead responses to Federal and Provincial tax audits, resolving issues and maintaining robust supporting documentation.
  • Conduct in-depth research on Canadian tax matters and develop clear, well-reasoned technical memos addressing complex issues.
  • Partner with the tax planning team to ensure accurate purchase accounting and compliance reporting for M&A transactions.
  • Assist with the Canadian tax filings and compliance requirements for the company’s foreign investments.
  • Review Canadian indirect tax returns and support indirect tax compliance processes.
  • Contribute to special projects and complex tax matters, providing expertise and innovative solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering growth and ensuring timely, high-quality deliverables.
  • Drive process improvements, enhancing efficiency and accuracy across tax operations.

ABOUT YOU

 

  • Business/Accounting degree or equivalent
  • CPA designation and completion of CPA Canada in-depth tax course
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Canadian corporate tax
  • Proficient understanding of Canadian Corporate Income Tax, including Canada’s foreign tax regime, Pillar 2 and EIFEL
  • Strong understanding of accounting for income tax under IFRS
  • US tax experience is an asset
  • Understanding of SOX controls and reporting
  • Experience with SAP/S4 Hana is an asset
  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Skilled in collecting and analyzing complex data and drawing logical conclusions
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
