ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta is currently looking to hire a Settlements Analyst, reporting directly to the Supervisor – Settlements. This role's main accountabilities are invoicing, remittance and payments for our Energy Trading & Marketing (ETM). We are looking for someone who is eager and ready to learn about our business and processes.
This is a terrific opportunity for someone who adapts readily to changing priorities, business conditions, has a passion for efficient production of accurate financial statements and strives for continuous learning, as the role grows and adapts to today’s technology centric environment. This position offers advancement opportunities to grow within the broader shared accounting services team.
This position is based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Ensure all settled trading activity and settled Counterparties /Pool related activity is invoiced/paid by specified deadlines – scope of work for ETM includes TransAlta’s Power Pools
- Ensure all cash is cleared and reconciled by counterparty for the Accounts Receivable aging and Accounts Payable reporting
- Work with credit, cash management, accounting, and AP groups to ensure payments are made in a timely manner
- Monitor receivable to ensure payments are received and are properly allocated while following up with customers on outstanding balances
- Accountable for month-end duties
- Prepare monthly General Ledger account analysis and reconciliations to ensure accurate and complete capture of financial results for reporting and analysis purposes
- Complete monthly reconciliations for FCM options to Allegro and outstanding balances for items not posted in cash management
- Perform variance analysis and reconcile accounts
- Accountable for SAP troubleshooting including but not limited to testing for system upgrades/patches and solutioning system issues within and between SAP with Allegro, AP, and Settlement pool reconciliation tools for the Assets
- Update and maintain a payment calendar to ensure that cash can be properly forecasted and managed
- Assist accountants with variance analysis and explanation of financial result as required
- Apply knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley controls, compliance procedures, regulatory impacts and internal policies and escalate business or system risks to leadership as required
- Work independently and as a team player, providing backup, support and take on additional responsibilities to contribute to the overall success of the Energy Marketing Finance department
- Effectively understand and solve complex issues in a timely manner
ABOUT YOU
- Minimum of 2+ years’ of experience in a Corporate Finance environment
- Experience in Energy Marketing, commodities trading, or power industry is desirable
- Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Finance, Commerce, Accounting, or business-related field
- Strong system skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and SAP
- Well organized and excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task and handle multiple deadlines and changing priorities is essential
- Relationship management skills, establishing and maintaining cross functional collaborative relationships
- Solid communication skills to appeal to broad audiences- managerial, direct reports, cross functional relationships
