ABOUT THE ROLE

 

We are currently looking or a dedicated & motivated Software Developer to join our team.

 

Through Analytics, Automation, and Apps the Innovation & Data team partners closely with our Generation, Corporate, and Trading teams to reinvent the way TransAlta works. We are currently seeking Full Stack Developers for our head office in Calgary but will consider Remote for the right candidate. This is a 1-year contract position.

 

As the Full Stack Web Developer, you'll be part of a team responsible for the full software development lifecycle on our responsive web application and other custom solutions.

 

This is a temporary employee position.

 

RESPONSBILITIES

 

  • Work with our designers, business users, engineers and data professionals to distill problems into right-size solutions.
  • Feature development and maintenance in our React/NodeJS responsive web application or other innovative solutions development
  • Grow our application infrastructure and processes as our projects evolve.
  • Contribute to initiatives as a technical resource by providing design considerations, cost estimates and identifying best practices

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or in related areas, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of software development experience.
  • Experience with the technologies in our stack:
    • React (Hooks) / Material UI Frontend
    • Mixed Apollo GraphQL & Express REST NodeJS API Layer
    • Azure DevOps CI/CD
    • Azure Hosting
    • SQL Server
  • Nimble and able to pivot as our understanding of the business needs changes.
  • Motivated to take a pragmatic look at each problem and consider unconventional solutions.
  • Able to deliver incremental, iterative value and collaborate frequently.
  • An understanding of effective agile and software development practices.
  • Good communication skills and ability to translate business requirements to technical solutions
  • Knowledge or familiarity in any of the following areas is considered an asset:
    • Power generation, energy trading, electricity, or natural gas markets
    • Data science and advanced analytics
    • Python
    • Neo4j
    • PostgresSQL
    • Kubernetes
    • Apache Spark
    • Telemetry and messaging platforms
