ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

The Senior Advisor, Internal Communications at TransAlta is a critical player in shaping our internal culture and supporting the ongoing transformation of our organization. This role focuses on consistent and intentional communication of our corporate strategy, learning opportunities, corporate updates, and cultural activities. The main objective is clear: to facilitate employees' access to tools and information for learning, purpose, and achieving results.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO  

 

  • Develop and execute a strategic internal communication plan supporting TransAlta’s business strategy, tailoring messages for diverse audiences in Canada, the US, and Australia.
  • Build compelling narratives around our corporate strategy and culture to help tell the story of TransAlta to our employees.
  • Build and implement channel frameworks to ensure consistent and digestible information across diverse geographies (both site and corporate employees).
  • Support the development of a digital workplace strategy, including SharePoint and other potential Microsoft tools.
  • Enhance internal communication processes and tools to increase readership and engagement, creating a balance between business objectives and cultural initiatives.
  • Execute communication plans in a fast-paced environment, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Drive strategic influence on the cadence and topics of communications, bringing clarity to conflicting priorities.
  • Establish effective feedback mechanisms to gauge the impact of internal communications and adapt strategies based on employee input.
  • Key accountabilities include:
    • Managing employee communication channels such as the intranet, digital boards, corporate emails, tailboard notices for site employees.
    • Developing content calendars.
    • Monitoring the employee communications email inbox.
    • Supporting quarterly and annual town halls.
    • Executing employee engagement and recognition programs, specifically supporting TransAlta's President’s Awards.

 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU  

 

  • University Degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in internal communications or a related role.
  • Experience in strategic communication planning.
  • Proficient in core office programs (e.g., MS Office) and capable of learning key position-specific applications (e.g. Canva).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong editing skills.
  • Digital acumen and proficiency in working with digital communication platforms, including SharePoint.
  • Strong project management skills.
