ABOUT THE ROLE

 

TransAlta is currently looking for a high energy, motivated Senior Analyst in our Consolidated Reporting and Financial Systems Support Group who is passionate with business processes, data handling, consolidation, and financial reporting.  This position is responsible for the ongoing support and integration of the Corporation's financial systems (SAP and interfaces) and processes that form part of TransAlta's internal and external financial reported information.  Additional responsibilities include addressing issues on business processes that involve various Finance modules (FI, AA, CO, PS, PCA, CFM, BCS).  The position will be responsible for coordinating reorganization events within the Consolidated Reporting and Financial Systems Support Group including acquisitions.  The individual may be called upon to prepare financial statements or financial statement components.  

 

This is a full-time salaried position.

 

This role is based out of our Head Office in Downtown Calgary, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.

 

Relocation coverage and assistance will be considered for the right candidate.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

  • Provide system or process expertise on complex matters from source data to consolidated results.
  • Build relationships with other departments to create system solutions including development of workplans and cutover plans for reorganization events such as acquisitions and mergers.  
  • Building and maintaining both interim and long-term Excel models for both reporting and data integrity validations.   
  • Help drive projects and work cross functionally with various departments including operations, finance and IT.  
  • Maintain SAP system master data as it pertains to the FI Modules, and related hierarchies where required.    
  • Identify and prioritize issues and develop action plans pertaining to financial systems including the coordination of finance and IT resources.
  • Provide training as required to address TransAlta's system and process training needs to keep users current in their knowledge and to maintain standards.
  • Support users and communicate standards around Finance processes and assist in developing and defining financial business processes.
  • Provide financial statements in carve out or post acquisition validations.  

 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

 

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:

 

  • An accounting designation and post-secondary education or equivalent 5 years’ relevant process, system and reporting experience.     
  • Track record of involvement in facilitating or coordinating reorganization activity within a global organization including carve out statements and purchase price allocations.  
  • Project management skills including tolerance for uncertainty.   
  • Expert level Excel proficiency, with advanced knowledge of Word and PowerPoint.  Proficient with Microsoft Windows. 
  • Solid understanding of IFRS, SOX compliance, and financial statement preparation.
  • Good comprehension of integration between SAP FI modules and the non-financial modules.
  • Strong working knowledge of financial processes as well as a comprehensive understanding of TransAlta's current business needs and the future direction for the company. 
  • Testing and documentation experience is essential.

 

Nice to Haves

 

The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential:

 

  • Ability to work with business users to design and integrate SAP based solutions within business processes.
  • SAP course training and/or equivalent hands-on experience in most of the following modules:  Finance, Controlling, Profit Centre Accounting, BCS, Business Warehouse, and CFM.
