ABOUT THE ROLE

 

TransAlta is currently looking to hire a Settlements Analyst (3 month term), reporting directly to the Supervisor Settlements, Energy Marketing Finance. 

 

This position is accountable to provide invoicing, billing, settlement and support revenue assurance activities related to energy marketing and generation contract and merchant production through integrated systems, tools and spreadsheets that link to the financial system of record. As a generalist in commodities products and a specialist in key geographic regions and customers, the position is accountable to meet daily and short-term operational deliverables up to 3 months in duration. 

 

This is a terrific opportunity for someone who adapts readily to changing priorities and business conditions and has a passion for efficient production of accurate financial statements. This position offers great growth opportunities within the broader Energy Marketing organization including our trading and risk.

 

This position is a 3 month temporary position. 

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Efficient and timely investigations of discrepancies resulting from settlements and invoicing activities; accountable to find and coordinate solutions through communication with cross-functional units in Energy Marketing and external counterparties
  • Understand electricity pool settlement & apply market knowledge to produce accurate statements and backup details in a timely an accurate manner
  • Apply knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley controls, compliance procedures, regulatory impacts and internal policies and escalate business or system risks to leadership as required
  • Manage small projects & growth deliverables, while meeting or exceeding operational targets and metrics
  • Work independently and as a team player, providing backup, support and take on additional responsibilities to contribute to the overall success of the Energy Marketing Finance department

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor Degree or in the process of completing a degree,  preferably in accounting, finance,  computer (data) science, Engineer and risk field.
  • Self-starter with a drive to continuously expand the business initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and accountable to resolve issues & troubleshoot independently
  • Strong communication skills & able to develop effective working relationships
  • Demonstrated strong technical abilities using excel and querying databases (SQL)
  • Proficient in learning to use software, tools, and systems to create efficiencies in daily work 
  • Ability to manage multiple time sensitive business user deliverables
  • Desire to strive towards best practices and continuous improvements in processes
  • Understanding of financial markets is an asset
