ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently looking for a highly motivated leader to join our TransAlta team in North America. Reporting directly to the Manager, Asset Management Systems Governance and Compliance, you will lead the North American Operations Compliance team and be responsible for managing the NERC CIP compliance program fleetwide. The successful candidate will be responsible for all our Operations Compliance standards, processes, systems, and procedures.
The role will supervise the Operations Compliance team, and provides Operations Compliance program governance and support to the Generation, and IT teams. The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the implementation of Operations Compliance programs at our new facilities, as we continue to grow our business.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As the supervisor of Operations Compliance, you will be:

Responsible for the monitoring, reporting and management of the Operations compliance program and its standards, systems, processes
-
Providing leadership to a small team of highly qualified NERC and Alberta Reliability compliance professionals
-
Partnering with our Generation, IT and Growth teams across North American to ensure program health and continuous improvement
As the NERC CIP Specialist you will:
-
Monitor and manage the overall health of the NERC CIP program fleetwide and ensure alignment of our internal programs to the NERC CIP (North American Electric Corporation Critical Infrastructure Compliance) programs.

Provide guidance and advice to the generation and IT business partners; ensuring they understand the program and their roles within it; including training
-
Provide NERC CIP Program governance, including Audit program execution (preparation of Reliability audit worksheets, generation documentation collection, review, and assessment), identification & implementation of program continuous improvement

Support TransAlta Regulatory Audit program execution (preparation of Reliability audit worksheets, documentation collection, evidence review, and evidence assessment) and development of mitigation plans for recommendations

Manage NERC CIP regulator information requests on behalf of the organization

Manage NERC CIP self-certifications on behalf of the organization

Manage noncompliance reporting on behalf of the organization, including mitigation plan developments for recommendations

Own and develop the NERC CIP Compliance program (policies, standards, procedures), including evidence documentation management. Establish evidence standards/packages to support effective execution of the program in Generation.

Implementation of NERC CIP Program for all new TransAlta assets (growth and acquisition)

Support Generation and IT/OT business projects, ensuring that changes maintain or enhance our NERC CIP compliance program

Monitor for upcoming changes to NERC CIP regulations, assess their impacts and ensure organizational readiness for their implementation

Be the subject matter expert on all aspects of NERC CIP

Partner with the Generation, Growth, and IT/OT business teams to help ensure the successful implementation, execution, and sustainment of NERC CIP activities across the business
ABOUT YOU
-
Minimum 10 years of related work experience
-
Minimum 5 – 10 years of electric utility business experience
-
Previous NERC CIP responsibilities
-
Familiarity with NERC, FERC regional CIP standards for (3) Canadian regions AESO, IESO, and NBEUB as well as (2) US region’s MRO & WECC
-
Excellent relationship management, interpersonal skills, and ability to partner with cross-functional teams
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
Strong problem-solving skills

Strong time management skills
-
Strong Microsoft Office skills
-
Valid driver’s license
Any or all of the following would be an asset:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or Business

Leadership experience
-
Past Generation Operations experience
-
Past NERC regulatory experience
-
Experience with designing, evaluating, and implementing NERC CIP security frameworks
-
Asset inventorying identification and classification of BES Cyber assets and systems
-
Experience in Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT) used in the electric utility and/or energy sector
-
IT /OT Cyber & Physical Security experience
-
Project Management skills and task coordination experience
-
Organizational Change Management experience
