ABOUT THE ROLE

 

We are currently looking to hire a full-time Trader/Originator to join TransAlta’s Environmental Trading team where you are responsible for creating value by leveraging TransAlta's Trading capabilities, assets, and core competencies.  This includes deal structure propositions, risk management products & solutions across a broad range of environmental attributes.

 

This position is based out of our Head Office in Downtown Calgary. 

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

  • Delivering key financial results
  • Growing the customer business, introducing new Commercial Initiatives, and transacting standard and/or structured environmental products
  • Develop, implement, and contribute to a 1–3-year business plan as well as maximizing value for TransAlta’s asset fleet
  • Managing risk and creating value for a broad range of energy products, and overall customer solutions
  • Facilitate internal deal approval responsibility for origination deals
  • Build and maintain TransAlta’s customer relationships and represent TransAlta as a trader and originator of environmental products: Recs, carbon allowances, and voluntary offsets
  • Provide key market intelligence to Trading while staying abreast of markets, competitors, and regulatory trends
  • Point for environmental trading with Credit, Legal, and Contract Administration departments
  • Interact with Regulatory, Risk, Business Development, and other trade desks to share market, regulatory, and competitor intelligence
  • Maintain a systematic process to manage the business operations including setting goals, new customer requests, optimizing credit, managing exposures, and Deal Management Team (DMT)
  • Support the sale of environmental attributes on behalf of TransAlta and TransAlta Renewables

 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

 

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:

 

  • Undergraduate University Degree, College Diploma, or significant industry experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental trading and/or origination
  • Proficient in MS office and capable of learning key position-specific applications
