ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta is looking to hire an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our Mine Reclamation team in Centralia, WA.
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for safely troubleshooting and performing repairs on major rolling stock equipment, both mechanical and electrical systems.
This is a full-time, unionized position based out of the Centralia Mine. This position follows a 4x10 hour shift schedule, Mon-Thur.
This role is safety sensitive. The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.
This is a IUOE Local 612-B position covered by the terms of the collective agreement.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and perform preventive and corrective maintenance repairs on major rolling stock equipment, with regard to mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Primary maintenance responsibilities:
- Hitachi 3500 loader
- Cat wheel-loaders of various sizes
- Cat 777 mechanical haul trucks
- Cat D11R, D10R, D8R, D7R dozers
- Cat 16H Motor Grader
- Cat 323F Excavator
- WA900 Komatsu loader
- Secondary maintenance responsibilities:
- Light duty pickups, forklifts, and Class 8 service trucks
- Knowledge in the following areas would be beneficial: air conditioning and welding
ABOUT YOU
Equivalent education and/or experience will be considered
- 5+ years of experience working with heavy industrial equipment
- Must be able to consistently work in a safe manner
- Ability to understand and follow mine safety and mine production policies and procedures
- Ability to problem solve independently
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Ability to hear clearly (corrected or uncorrected)
- Must possess good visual acuity (corrected or uncorrected)
- Ability to regularly climb ladders
- Occasional lifting of up to 40lbs.
- Ability to work in all types of weather
- Available to work a shift schedule
THE PERKS
This position is covered under the IUOE Local 612-B collective agreement. The current union hourly rate for the Heavy Equipment Mechanic is $40.09 USD.
