Work will be performed at TransAlta's mine reclamation site, work is seasonal and expected to be available from May through October, 2019.

 

The key areas of accountability for the Supervisor, Mine Operations position are:  Safety, Leadership, Production, and Cost Management.

 

 

Responsible to improve availability and the effective use of resources by:

 

  • Demonstrating strong execution of operational leadership.  The Supervisor, Mine Operations must effectively implement mine reclamation plans.
  • Providing the necessary leadership to improve and maintain aggressive and evolving safety programs and initiatives, while encouraging a safe and harassment free workplace for employees.
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, possessing the knowledge and ability to recognize and correct non-compliance items with regard to OSM, MSHA and Company policies.
  • Knowing and understanding TransAlta’s EMS policy and having the ability to access relevant databases for existing or updated information and/or policies.
  • Coordinating with Engineering to develop the safest, most productive, cost effective hauling and spoiling plan.
  • Ensure proper execution of the mine reclamation plan.
  • Seek out opportunities for productivity improvements with the goal of continually raising the standards of all employees.
  • Maintain proper staffing and manpower levels.
  • Ensure that the Operations Department is run in accordance with the CBA.
  • Performing other supervisory responsibilities such as delegating, counseling, performance evaluation and development.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Specific knowledge of surface mining and reclamation, and business and operational practices.
  • Demonstrated change management skills and abilities.
  • Knowledge / experience in budgeting, and productivity improvement.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership.
  • Possess effective computer, verbal and written communication skills.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS: (Equivalent education and/or experience may be substituted for qualifications.)

               

  • Possess 5+ years of related experience in engineering and/or mine operations.
  • Demonstrated record of delivering on established performance objectives.
  • Required to possess or be willing to obtain specified MSHA certifications.
  • Requires working knowledge of coal mine operations including safety, budgeting, equipment, staff utilization and production.
  • Requires supervisory and/or management skills and experience.
  • Ability to work Swing or Night shift.

  • SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Working in extreme environmental conditions and around potentially dangerous equipment.
