  • Manage and coordinate internal and external engineering activities to ensure that all engineering including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls is completed on-time, on-budget and to a high standard of quality.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the CTG project engineering quality management plan.
  • Respond to contractor technical queries and provide technical support for the CTG project from development through to construction in accordance to agreed contractual timelines.
  • Accountable to manage and coordinate interface/terminal point engineering between pipeline and plant conversion as well as all plant tie-ins.
  • Ensure that the management of change process is initiated, reviewed and approved by Plant Stakeholders for all interface/terminal points.
  • Develop and integrate the CTG work and equipment changes into the existing asset management plans which support the medium and long-term business planning process.
  • Complete life-cycle cost analysis for equipment improvement options and provide recommendations to senior management.
  • Facilitate the development and approval of the design based memorandum for the CTG conversions.
  • Ensure that safe in design guidelines are followed, included HAZOP and process safety.
  • Coordinate and communicate the resolution of significant technical issues arising from the CTG conversion work.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the equipment and system risk assessments and condition assessments process.
  • Ensure that engineering designs conform to technical standards and good engineering practices.
  • Ensure that existing drawings and documents are revised throughout the design review process.
  • Develop a technical turnover document and turnover package.
  • Adhere to TransAlta Professional Practice Management Plan and APEGA rules and guidelines.
  • Recommend changes to temporary and standard operating procedures, policies, and standards.
  • Developing, implementing, and managing the safety and compliance training program for direct reports.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of strong business cases
  • Provide input to industry standards and guidelines, when relevant
  • Other duties as required




  • Degree in Engineering

• Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta

• Demonstrated technical and operational knowledge in power generation technology and associated equipment components with specialization in coal or natural gas.

• Demonstrated senior level of knowledge of the applicable practices and processes associated with power generation equipment and units within coal or natural gas.

• Actively grows and maintains up to date knowledge and information on technological innovations in the industry.   Collaborates with outside technical peers in the industry

• Knowledge and understanding of applicable engineering principles, practices and standards.

• Knowledge and understanding of regulations related to safety and equipment limits.

• Awareness of Operational Integrity principles and process safety.

• Recognized as an experienced engineering leader within the organization
