ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta is currently recruiting two (2) Wind Technicians for our Soderglen Wind facility, located just 20km southwest of Fort Macleod, Alberta. This position ensures the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the Soderglen wind assets by applying operating and maintenance standards, procedures, and processes that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
The Wind Technician is responsible for developing and implementing operations and maintenance strategies. This role is accountable to provide leadership through developing, implementing, and managing the daily and ongoing business plan in alignment with the Supervisors business plan. This role is also accountable to ensure the portfolio adheres to TransAlta’s operating model.
This role is based out of our Soderglen site and is a permanent, full-time salaried, safety-sensitive position. The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Ensure optimal performance by scheduling, planning, and implementing maintenance, service, and repair of wind turbine equipment through a team of wind technicians and contractors.
- Support the daily and ongoing business plan in alignment with the Supervisor’s business plan by driving operational performance, achieving business results, and fostering continuous improvement.
- Ensure operational compliance with EHS, NERC, OHS, plant availability, and cost standards by reviewing work orders for accuracy and completeness, updating inventory, reporting facility metrics, maintaining accurate records, and monitoring Synergi report entries.
- Drive results in safety, compliance, plant availability, and cost by providing technical support to wind technicians, ensuring all routine and preventative maintenance is performed accurately, on time, and documented.
- Assist the Supervisor in selecting, developing, and managing a high-performance team of employees and contractors to achieve plant outcomes. This includes assigning tasks within a team of Technicians and holding them accountable for delivery.
- Ensure staff are adequately trained, qualified, and competent in their roles and compliant with mandatory training requirements.
- Identify and mitigate risks that could negatively impact business results and identify opportunities that could positively impact outcomes.
- Establish a collaborative work environment with the team, peers, stakeholders, and support groups to resolve issues professionally and productively.
- Provide after-hours support (on call) as needed, working closely with the Wind Control Centre and the Supervisor.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following essential qualifications and experience:
- Appropriate trade certification in a related discipline with years of related progressive experience
- Preference for wind turbine experience of 2 years or more, or related experience
- Understanding of the operational aspects of the plant - technical, compliance, and financial
- Thorough understanding of the operational aspects of the plant - technical, compliance, and financial
- Plant risk and related mitigation strategies
- Good understanding of contractor requirements, procurement processes, and inventory management.
- Thorough understanding of how related teams coordinate their efforts and resources to achieve objectives.
