Summary: 

The Operations Maintenance Technician - Mechanical (OMT-M) is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable and efficient maintenance of power station equipment to meet operating standards and production needs. Working as part of a multi-skilled team, the OMT M will be involved in all aspects of plant maintenance.

 

The OMT M will troubleshoot, repair, fabricate and maintain mechanical equipment across the Fort Saskatchewan units. The OMT M is a member of an internal workforce that works on routine plant maintenance, plant turnarounds, plant projects, and/or backfilling employees who are on projects. Work can involve diverse work assignments across the Fort Saskatchewan units.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Planning course of action and a sequence of steps to ensure that goals and objectives are achieved.
  • Execution of planned routine and forced outage maintenance to deliver budgeted results.
  • Implement appropriate standards/procedures for maintenance of critical systems.
  • Troubleshoot problems with plant mechanical equipment.
  • Provide leadership in root cause analysis for critical mechanical systems; ensure timely follow-up and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure engineered changes are effectively integrated into existing systems per Management of Change guidelines.
  • Inform Supervisor and Plant Engineers if equipment is operating outside of its design operating envelope
  • Identify opportunities/scope for plant productivity reliability safety and environmental performance enhancements, including problem definitions and recommended solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership in design of new proposed mechanical systems and assist with commissioning, training and spare parts strategies.
  • Coordinate and manage contract resources as required to complete objectives
  • Plan and Execute Work Orders and PMs as assigned to a high standard of quality
  • Update accurate history documents for equipment worked on.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Successful applicants must have a Grade 12 High school Diploma (GED accepted).
  • Qualification as Journeyman in one or more of the following trades is required: Welders, Millwrights, Machinists, Pipefitters and Heavy-Duty Mechanics.
  • 5 years power plant maintenance experience.
  • Use SAP for maintenance activities including a strong commitment to Work Management process.
  • Must have a valid class 5 Alberta driver's license.
  • Has demonstrated experience in trouble shooting and analyzing equipment performance problems and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Mechanical systems.
  • Must have basic computer skills, including the ability to send and retrieve email and access company web pages through the Internet.
  • Maintain a high profile for safety for himself and his co-workers
  • Must be able to work varying shifts if required.
  • Must be comfortable working at extreme heights.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work safely and effectively in a team environment, as well as with minimal supervision.
