Summary: 

The Supervisor position is to ensure safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the US Wind assets and; through application of operating/maintenance standards, procedures and processes that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. This position exists to develop and implement operations and maintenance strategies within a within a 3-12-months’ time span. The role will be based at the TransAlta wind farm Hector Township, Pennsylvania. The suitable candidate will need to be located within 30 miles drive from the site.

 

This role is accountable to provide leadership through developing, implementing and managing a 3-12 months business plan in alignment with the Manager, Wind & Solar Operations business plan. This role is accountable to ensure the portfolio adheres to TransAlta’s operating model.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Provide leadership and optimal performance, by selecting, developing and managing direct reports and contractors capable of producing the agreed deliverables.
  • Develop and implementing a 1-year business plan driving operational performance, achievement of business results and continuous improvement.
  • Operational compliance to EHS, NERC, OHSA, etc., plant availability, and cost standards
  • Developing and tailoring plans to drive for results in the areas of safety, compliance, plant availability, and cost.
  • Select, develop, and manage a high-performance team of Wind Technicians to achieve expected outcomes of the plants. This includes delegating stratum appropriate deliverables to direct reports (of up to 3 months deliverable) and holding them accountable for delivery. This includes building bench strength.
  • Ensure contractors staff are adequately trained, qualified and competent in their roles and compliant with mandatory training.
  • Identify and mitigate risk that could negatively impact the agreed to outcomes or business results and identifying and realizing opportunities that could positively impact the agreed to outcomes or business results.
  • Establish a collaborative work environment within the team, peers, stakeholders and support groups to ensure issues may be resolved in a professional and productive manner.
  • Uphold TransAlta values, thereby maintaining and enhancing reputation and stakeholder relations.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or the equivalent through on the job experience
  • 2 - 4 year technical degree or equivalent work experience and training
  • 3 - 5 years in a leadership position and 5 years experience O&M in an energy environment, renewable technology a plus
  • Comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within own discipline and knowledge of others
  • Thorough understanding of the operational aspects of the plant - technical, business, and financial
  • Plant risk and related mitigation strategies
  • Capture and apply lessons learned
  • Understanding of contractual and commercial agreements
  • Has strong understanding of how related teams coordinate their efforts and resources to achieve objectives.
  • Establish and implement operating and business plans.
  • Monitor analyze and forecast business performance.
  • Identify and mitigate risks / realize opportunities.
  • Establish, balance and manage stakeholder relationships and/or needs internally and externally.
  • Ability to excel under pressure.
  • Identify and implement business and / or productivity improvement initiatives.
  • Effectively manage service providers at multiple assets.
