ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta is seeking a talented and experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team at our Joffre Cogeneration Station.
The Electrical Engineer is a member of a multi-discipline engineering team tasked with executing major maintenance activities, improvement projects, and supporting the Operations and Maintenance teams. This role is responsible for all aspects of project development, design, implementation, and closure in compliance with PPMP and MOC processes. The Electrical Engineer will also provide consistent, comprehensive, and professional support to the station operations and maintenance departments in areas such as troubleshooting, root cause analysis, maintenance practices, outage planning & execution, operating guidelines, and engineering standards development and implementation.
This is a full-time, salaried position based out of our Joffre Cogeneration Facility near Red Deer, Alberta.
This role is safety sensitive. Pre-employment testing will be required as a condition of employment.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Condition monitoring of generators, transformers, and BOP electrical equipment
- Development of lifecycle and contingency plans for critical equipment
- Leading major maintenance, inspections, and testing of station equipment
- Program development and ownership of applicable Alberta Reliability Standards
- Leading the site commodity metering process
- Project management
- Engineering design and drawing updates
- Management of critical engineering files and documentation
- Weekly and monthly reporting
- Providing technical support and mentorship to station personnel
- Providing support to other TransAlta operational facilities as required
ABOUT YOU
- Electrical Engineering degree from a recognized post-secondary institution and registered as a Professional Engineer in good standing with APEGA, or meet the requirements of the APEGA Inter-Provincial Mobility program
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience in power generation, or a comparable industry
- Experience with electrical generation & distribution equipment, electrical protection & control, industrial electrical process equipment, and associated control systems
- Experience with industrial instrumentation and/or process control systems is an asset
- A working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and applicable industry standards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and cloud-based business applications
- A demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- The desire to seek feedback to improve quality of deliverables and to develop existing and new expertise
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
