ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently seeking an Electrical Technologist, Senior Qualified to join the team at our Joffre Cogeneration Station.
Employees are responsible for the interpretation and application of electrical principles in the design, installation, commissioning, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment or systems for engine and gas turbine generating systems. Employees evaluate test results using various types of test equipment, analyze, evaluate and document equipment reliability, develop and make modifications to existing drawings, estimate costs, specify, select and procure equipment, and perform acceptance tests.
May assume administrative duties such as filing, record keeping, data input, report writing and preparation of operating and maintenance manuals and technical presentations. Act as a resource to less experienced staff by providing technical guidance.
This is a full-time, safety-sensitive position based out of our Joffre Cogeneration Station in Joffre, Alberta.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Electrical Maintenance Engineer and/or other professional, employees perform duties of considerable variety and complexity. Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
- Troubleshooting routine and non-routine problems (faults, failures), providing in-depth analyses, and causing deficiencies to be corrected or repaired, submitting detailed technical reports and making recommendations for design changes.
- Performing preventative maintenance on specific pieces of equipment and participating in predictive maintenance programs and making recommendations on preventative and/or predictive maintenance programs.
- Developing preventative or predictive programs for equipment in the station and making recommendations on preventative and/or predictive maintenance programs.
- Designing, installing, commissioning, testing, maintaining electrical and/or instrumentation equipment or systems.
- Performing duties such as routine paperwork, attending meetings, specifying and ordering equipment/parts/materials/supplies, data gathering and/or entry, record keeping, manual updates.
- Mentor less experienced staff in operation, installation, testing, repair, and maintenance of equipment.
- Preparing costs and estimates and initiating work orders.
- Coordinating the work of contractors and other work groups which could include planning and scheduling the work to be executed and monitoring ongoing expenditures and reporting variances to actual budgets.
- Providing comprehensive work plans for self and projects and reviewing/recommending enhancements to work procedures.
- Interpreting the application of technical and/or operational procedures which may have a departmental or interdepartmental impact.
- Consulting on departmental or interdepartmental technical matters.
- Performing “Project Management” responsibilities for engineering projects including: project budgets, cost control, setting schedules and completion reports.
All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with established health, safety and environmental principles, corporate policies, practices and procedures and applicable government legislation.
ABOUT YOU
- An electrical engineering technologist diploma and recognition as a Technologist by the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET)
- 5 - 10 years of experience in a Power Generating Station or related industrial experience and 3-5 years experience at equivalent to the Qualified Technologist level.
- Must posses a valid Alberta Journeyman Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician
- Entry Level Project Management Training
