TransAlta Energy (Australia) Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Canadian based TransAlta Corporation, TransAlta operates and maintains 6 Power Stations in Western Australia. With a 20-year history in the State, we provide safe, clean and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers and have invested significantly in stable, long-term contracts. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Maintenance Planner to join our team in South Goldfields. 


This position exists to ensure an effective maintenance and purchasing function. Working within the Purchasing team, and in close liaison with on-site OMTs, Administrators and Plant Managers, this position is responsible for site planning and purchasing in line with TransAlta’s formalized processes, and championing processes and tools associated with planning and purchasing to support regions of the Australian business.




  • Prepare and deliver the Weekly Schedule (including Priority, Backlog and 3 Week look-ahead) at weekly site Work Management Scheduling Meetings.
  • Receives quotes and completes purchasing at sites.
  • Ensures compliance with procurement principles for site purchasing
  • Periodic audit of the Work Management process, and identifies and implements improvements to the maintenance process on site
  • Process champion of the detailed associated processes, to direct staff on process and timeline requirements
  • Ensures work orders in SAP include representations of internal labour, contractor services, materials and incidental costs
  • Input, maintenance and continuous improvement of SAP master data, such as creating and maintaining PM’s, BOM’s, Equipment, and FLOC’s




  • Appropriate certification or education in a related discipline, and/or possess tangible and proven experience and skills
  • Minimum two years’ experience in managing maintenance schedules, maintenance budgets, improvements in maintenance plans, and must have root cause analysis technical
  • Business knowledge – able to connect project objectives to broader business goals.
  • Willingness to identify, explore and implement ideas external to our organization that improve our practices, behaviours and results.
  • Must have in-depth working knowledge and experience in maintenance optimization and cost saving.
  • Upkeep of OMT knowledge and authorizations to provide broad assistance to teams as required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with:
    • MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint,
    • scheduling software (MS Project)
    • a SAP environment
  • Capability to understand how complex technical issues may impact the plan.
  • Capability to identify, develop, document and implement project management best practices.
  • Ability to apply understanding of the industry and how own area contributes to the achievement of objectives.
  • Solid management, leadership, decision making, and influencing skills and experience is critical
