ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta operates and maintains 6 Power Stations in Western Australia. With a 25-year history in the Western Australia, we provide safe, clean and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers and have invested significantly in stable, long-term contracts.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Operations & Maintenance Technician (OMT) to join our team in Kalgoorlie. Reporting to the Plant Manager, South Goldfields and with day-to-day functional interaction and communication with the Plant Manager, RCC.
The Southern System Maintenance Technicians will have an overall focus on the safe and efficient Maintenance of TransAlta’s operating assets in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. The base location for this position is at TransAlta’s Parkeston Power Station, is primarily day shift with occasional night shift duties and is a residential position. Travel to all operating sites is also a requirement of this position.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Support and contribute to a safe working team environment of open communication and collaboration
- Carry out maintenance and planning activities in line with the Work Management Process
- Generation and recording of Work Orders into SAP work management system
- Troubleshoot problems with plant equipment for the purpose of supply restoration and minimise downtime
- Mentor new staff members in the maintenance department
- Daily collaboration with Regional Control System Operators on plant performance and daily required maintenance schedule
- Undertake projects to optimise plant performance
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
- Electrical trade qualification and hold (or ability to obtain) a WA electrical licence
- A Valid C class Australian Drivers licence (manual transmission)
- Proven experience in electrical & instrumentation maintenance of a mineral processing plant
- Working knowledge of power generation, transmission and distribution
- Knowledge of process technologies and equipment including working with SCADA/Citect/HMI systems
NICE TO HAVES
The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential:
- Certificate IV in Instrumentation
- HV Switching Ticket
- Working knowledge of SAP or similar work management system
- High Risk Work Licences - Forklift, EWP
- Experience in Aeroderivative or Heavy-Duty Gas Turbines
