ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

TransAlta owns and operates and maintains6 Power Stations in Western Australia. With a 25-year history in the State, we provide safe, clean and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers and have invested significantly in stable, long-term contracts. TransAlta is entering an exciting phase in our Australian business as we expand with our customers and develop multiple renewable projects within Western Australia. 

 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced full-time Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor to join our TransAlta team. As the HSE Advisor you will be the main interface between multiple project execution teams, main contractors and the EHS Lead. You will ensure compliance with all laws and regulations and assist in the integration of the new projects into the existing   Total Safety Management System and support our operational and maintenance teams, contractors, and clients across our project site. 

 

This is a FIFO role involving travel to multiple sites on a weekly basis from Perth airport. The successful applicant will be required to abide by all accommodation rules at the various sites including Port Hedland, Leinster, Mount Keith and Eastern Goldfields  

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO 

 

As the HSE Advisor, you are responsible for but not limited to:                                                                                                                                       

  • Establish the project specific WHS based safe working framework, and identify the applicable policies and procedures for review and implementation 

  • Monitor compliance with the TransAlta Total Safety Management System, legislative requirements, and project specific management plans

  • Assist the coordination of industry updates, client health and safety topics and company information to raise awareness and promote a safe working environment 

  • Conduct accident/incident investigations and prevention initiatives as required 

  • Perform Workplace Inspections and audits to the agreed site schedule and advise the EHS Lead, Project and Plant Manager of any concerns or areas of non-compliance 

  • Maintain the EHS&T documentation in the approved project specific format consistent with TransAlta EHS&T filing structure 

 

ABOUT YOU  

 

Our HSE Advisor must meet or exceed the following qualifications and experience:  

  • Qualified as a minimum in a Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety / Workplace Health and Safety 

  • Familiarity with WHS and Environmental management system requirements for site-based environments 

  • Previous construction, electrical, mechanical experience 

  • Experience with environmental data collection and reporting processes  

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills 

  • Demonstrated ability to perform unsupervised, working under pressure and to tight deadlines 

  • Australian Citizen or Resident with unrestricted valid driver’s licence 

 

Desirable:  

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with experience in developing and the delivery of training material 

  • Certificate IV in Environmental Management Systems 

  • Internal auditor training
