ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta Australia, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Canadian-based TransAlta Corporation, currently operates and maintains 6 power stations in Western Australia. With a 20-year history in the State, we provide safe, clean, and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and driven HV Technician to join our team in the North Goldfields region of Western Australia!
Reporting to the Plant Manager, North Goldfields, the High Voltage Technician has an overall focus on the safe and efficient Operations and Maintenance of TransAlta’s generation, transmission and distribution assets in the northern Goldfields region of Western Australia. TransAlta values the safe delivery of clean, reliable power. The base location for this position will either be at TransAlta’s Leinster or Mt Keith operating facilities, is primarily day shift with occasional night shift duties, and is an 8/6 Fly in Fly out (FIFO) position from Perth. Occasional travel to all operating sites is also a requirement of this position. For the best candidate, relocation to Perth will be considered.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- HV Switching Operator per 5.18 MSIR 1995
- Compliance with all TransAlta Safety Policies, Standards, and Procedures
- Maintenance and planning activities in line with the Work Management Process
- Planning of Major and routine outages
- Planning, organising and delivery of Capital Works Projects
- Troubleshoot problems with plant equipment for the purpose of supply restoration
- Provide detailed reports during routine maintenance tasks and unplanned maintenance events
- Training of new staff members as required
- Supervision of contract support staff ensuring safe work standards are maintained
- Other duties as required and commensurate with role and qualifications
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
- HV Switching Operator endorsement
- Trade Qualified in electrical discipline or higher
- Electrical Workers License
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work safely both independently and in a team environment
- Intermediate computer skills (email, word, spreadsheet, and databases) are required
- Must be able to work in hot & cold environments, at heights, and within confined spaces
- Working knowledge of and the ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and P&ID drawings, specifications, and wiring diagrams
- Working knowledge of power generation, transmission, and distribution
- HR driver's license is essential
Nice to Haves
- Heavy industrial HV experience is highly desirable
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Police Clearance (within the last six months)
- Undertake pre-employment medical
