TransAlta operates and maintains 6 Power Stations in Western Australia. With a 20-year history in the State, we provide safe, clean and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers and have invested significantly in stable, long-term contracts. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Plant Manager to join our team in the Goldfields Region of Western Australia. Reporting to the Group Manager Operations, this is a key on site role providing leadership to ensure our Northern Goldfield assets are operated safely and efficiently, whilst ensuring zero harm to all personnel and minimal impact to our environment and community.


Working closely with the Lead Hands, and Senior Planner, the role will be responsible for;


  • All operation and maintenance activities in accordance with the Business Plan;

  • Site Process Safety and Risk management;

  • Management and integrity of the permit and isolation system;

  • Compliance with policies, procedures, operating licenses, regulatory obligations and standards;

  • Liaison with the customer at site, and our internal Business Partners such as HSE, Commercial, Engineering, HR, Finance, Risk & Governance and Business Development;

  • Site Asset Management Planning;

  • Day to day people leadership, Enterprise Agreement interpretation and ensuring sufficient resources are available and rostered to site at all times

  • Training and development of personnel;

  • Budgeting for O&M and Capital Business Plans, reporting and explaining variances.

  • Identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities for processes/systems and work practices/strategies.


is this you?


You’ll need to be a passionate leader with a proven track record, commercially adept and have excellent stakeholder and team management skills.  You will hold qualifications in an engineering discipline and/or trade qualification, and can demonstrate the following skills and experience;


  • Leading high-performance teams, including 24/7 operations;

  • Previous management in power generation or similar manufacturing/ process industries;

  • Capability in applying and ensuring consistent Performance Management practices (Developing, Coaching, Feedback, Expectations, Corrective Action), including Change Management.

  • Leading continuous change.

  • Development and execution of Asset Management Plans;

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with a wide range of personnel at all levels internal and external to the organisation, and the ability to interpret and explain complex technical information in a clear and concise manner;

  • Consistent demonstration of Health, Safety and Environment behavioural standards for teams and contractors, to achieve optimum HSE performance and culture.

  • Present with impact, including skilfully facilitating discussions and confidently expressing ideas and insights when appropriate.
