ABOUT THE ROLE

 

TransAlta operates and maintains 6 Power Stations in Western Australia. With a 20-year history in the State, we provide safe, clean and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers and have invested significantly in stable, long-term contracts. We are currently seeking a motivated and dedicated Site Supervisor to join our North Goldfields team!

We are currently seeking a full time motivated and dedicated Site Supervisor to join our North Goldfields team. As the Site Supervisor you are responsible for ensuring that all maintenance tasks are performed safely and within budget and that the use of facilities and equipment is appropriate to safe work methods and statutory requirements ensuring the contribution of the team to TransAlta safety programs and initiatives. Working daily with a team of Maintenance Technicians, you are responsible for daily allocation of tasks, rostering, reporting, daily interaction with the Regional Control Centre and general supervision of the team. You will work closely with the Engineering and Environment Health Safety & Training (EHS&T) team, and report directly to the Plant Manager, North Goldfields. 

 

The base location for this position will either be at TransAlta’s Leinster or Mt Keith operating facilities, is primarily day shift with occasional night shift duties and is an 8/6 Fly in Fly out position from Perth. Occasional travel to all operating sites is also a requirement of this position.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Developing, and supervising a high performing team of employees to achieve expected outcomes of the plants. This includes delegating appropriate deliverables to team members and holding them accountable for delivery. This includes building bench strength.

  • Implementing a 1-year business plan driving operational performance, achievement of business results and continuous improvement

  • Operational compliance to relevant standards, plant availability, and cost standards

  • Developing and tailoring plans to drive for results in the areas of safety, compliance, plant availability, and cost

  • Ensuring staff are adequately trained, qualified and competent in their roles and compliant with mandatory training

  • Identifying and mitigating risk that could negatively impact the agreed to outcomes or business results and identifying and realising opportunities that could positively impact the agreed to outcomes or business results

  • Establishing a collaborative work environment within the team, peers, stakeholders and support groups to ensure issues may be resolved in a professional and productive manner

  • Upholding TransAlta values, thereby maintaining and enhancing reputation and stakeholder relations

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Electrical trade diploma or degree is preferred

  • 10 years of related progressive experience in an industrial facility, including 2 to 4 years as a Supervisor.

  • Current WA Electrician's License and HV Switching Certificate an advantage.

  • Experience in Steam, and a WA HRWL for Boiler operator and Turbine Operation an advantage.

  • Understanding of plant operations and maintenance functions in an industrial and/or electrical generating facility

  • Comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within own discipline and knowledge of others

  • Thorough understanding of the operational aspects of power generation assets - technical, business, and financial

  • Experience developing plant risk and related mitigation strategies

  • Contractual understanding of commercial agreements with support from SCM and Commercial teams

  • Strives for continuous improvement and leads a team to deliver outcomes in the most efficient and effective manner.

  • Strives to establish, maintain and strengthen relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Excellent understanding of how related teams coordinate their efforts and resources to achieve objectives
