ABOUT THE ROLE

 

TransAlta operates and maintains 6 Power Stations in Western Australia. With a 20-year history in the State, we provide safe, clean and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers and have invested significantly in stable, long-term contracts.

 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced full-time Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor to join our TransAlta team in January 2022. As the HSE Advisor, you will assist in the continuous improvement of our Total Safety Management System and support our operational and maintenance teams, contractors, and clients across our project site. This role gives you the opportunity to travel to different sites on a weekly basis which in includes FIFO from the Perth airport to sites based at Mount Keith and / or Leinster. The successful applicant will be based at BHP NickelWest Single Persons Quarters camps for the duration of the projects and must abide by all client-imposed regulations whilst on site. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

As the HSE Advisor, you are responsible for but not limited to:       

                                                                                                                                

  • Monitor compliance with the TransAlta Total Safety Management System, legislative requirements, and project specific management plans to ensure positive EHS&T outcomes are reached for staff, clients, and contractors
  • Assist the coordination of industry updates, client health and safety topics and company information to raise awareness and promote a safe working environment
  • Conduct accident/incident investigations and prevention initiatives as required
  • Perform Workplace Inspections and audits to the agreed site schedule and advise the Project and Plant Manager of any concerns or areas of non-compliance
  • Maintain the EHS&T documentation in the approved project specific format consistent with TransAlta EHS&T filing structure

 

ABOUT YOU 

 

Our HSE Advisor must meet or exceed the following qualifications and experience:

 

  • Qualified as a minimum in a Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety / Workplace Health and Safety
  • Familiarity with EHS management system requirements for site-based environments
  • Previous construction, electrical, mechanical, and renewable energy (solar, wind) experience
  • Experience with environmental data collection and reporting processes
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform unsupervised, working under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Australian Citizen or Resident with unrestricted valid driver’s licence

 

Desirable:

  • Hold Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with experience in developing and the delivery of training material
