TransAlta owns and operates and maintains 6 Power Stations in Western Australia. With a 25-year history in the State, we provide safe, clean and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers and have invested significantly in stable, long-term contracts. TransAlta is entering an exciting phase in our Australian business as we expand with our customers and develop multiple renewable projects within Western Australia. 


We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Financial Accountant to join our Finance Team. Reporting to the Manager, Finance, the Senior Financial Accountant is an integral part of the Finance team, primarily accountable for ensuring the accurate and timely reporting of consolidated corporate financial information, as well as local related statutory and regulatory reporting. This includes accountability to manage compliance audits.



As the Senior Financial Accountant, you are responsible for but not limited to:                                                                                                                                    

  • Provide technical accounting support to the business such as those associated with contracts, new accounting pronouncements, business developments projects

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly consolidated financial information

  • Prepare local statutory reporting requirements

  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and SOX controls

  • Oversee Accounts Payable

  • Assist with corporate governance and secretarial matters



Our Senior Financial Accountant must meet or exceed the following qualifications and experience:  

  • CA / CPA qualified, with a minimum of ten years relevant experience

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, with demonstrated ability to apply IFRS and regulatory knowledge

  • Attention to detail

  • Highly organized and excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work both autonomously and within a team

  • Proficient excel user

  • Previous SAP experience would be well regarded
