ABOUT THE ROLE

We have a great opportunity for a passionate and dedicated Hydro Plant Manager to join our team. Based in Revelstoke, you will primarily be accountable for the providing management and oversight of eight Hydro facilities across Canada.

 

As a Hydro Plant Manager you will lead a team of experienced operator/maintainers and are responsible for the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of ten Hydro facilities across Canada. This position is based in Revelstoke BC with accountability for sites in Ontario (3 sites), Alberta (4 sites) and BC (3 sites).

 

Working alongside a broader Hydro team including other Plant Managers, engineering and project teams, this role promises to be rewarding. Not only do you get to lead your own business segment, but you also get to enjoy the beauty and wonders of Revelstoke every day!

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO  

 

  • Create, foster and maintain a proactive safety culture.
  • Provide leadership and optimal performance, by managing direct reports and contractors.
  • Develop and implement a business plan driving operational performance, achievement of financial targets and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and manage the operations team including training and development.
  • Working closely with the Engineering and Projects teams optimize the outage schedule to minimize lost production and increase revenue opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with TransAlta’s operating model.
  • Own all routine operations and planning / execution of maintenance in accordance with business and asset plans and TransAlta processes, standards, and procedures.
  • Provide recommendations based on equipment condition, operational performance and risk, market and other drivers for asset plans, mid-range forecast (MRF), annual budget and other business planning activities.
  • Manage equipment, tooling, and inventory.
  • Develop and implement emergency response exercises.
  • Ensure all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements are met.
  • Establish a collaborative work environment with the team, peers, stakeholders and support groups to ensure issues may be resolved in a professional and productive manner.
  • Uphold TransAlta values, thereby maintaining and enhancing reputation and stakeholder relations.

 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU  

 

  • Engineering degree, technical diploma, single or dual ticket Red-Seal Journeyperson.
  • 3-5 years’ supervisory experience in maintenance, operations and/or project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage contractors and vendors.
  • High level of initiative, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable attitude to work in a dynamic environment, demonstrates a positive and proactive attitude towards change.
  • Highly values the work and is self-motivated.
  • Holds self-responsible for problems and delivery of results.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborates with peers and engages cross-functional support to achieve results and drive improvements.
  • Communicates with broad audiences (management, team, internal and external stakeholders).
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices and standards.
  • Business knowledge, able to connect business objectives to broader business strategy.
  • Demonstrated capability to:
    • Establish and implement operating and business plans.
    • Monitor, analyze and forecast business performance. Identify and mitigate risks / realize opportunities.
    • Establish, balance and manage stakeholder relationships and/or needs internally and externally.
    • Identify and implement business and / or productivity improvement initiatives.
    • Capture and apply lessons learned.
    • Coach and mentor team members.
    • Excel under pressure.

NICE TO HAVES

 

  • Experience in power generation is an asset, hydro power generation is preferred.
  • Awareness and understanding of applicable regulations and legislations that apply to the power generation industry. Specific hydro knowledge is an asset.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Successfully completion of pre-employment testing is a condition of employment.
  • On call availability required.
  • Willing and able to travel to various sites.
  • Salaried position, not overtime eligible.

 

WHAT WE OFFER

 

 

  • Annual base salary starting at CDN $112,800 – $169,200. The final agreed-upon base salary is based on the successful candidate(s) qualifications and experience.
