ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta is seeking a Civil, Mining or Environmental Engineering Co-op Student to join our team for a 12-month co-op term starting in July or August 2025. Reporting directly to the Manager, Technical Services, you will be responsible for helping with a wide range of mine reclamation planning and environmental activities at the site. This position will be located out of Highvale Mine, to the south of Wabamun Lake, approximately 65 kilometers west of Edmonton, Alberta.
Please note that this is a safety sensitive position, and the successful candidate will be required to pass pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Mine surveying and data analysis
- Productivity analysis, reclamation and dragline design & planning
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Communicating and coordinating effectively with mine operations personnel
- Using mine planning software such as Mine Sight, 3D Dig, and AutoCAD
- Support of environmental field activities including air, groundwater, surface water and soil sampling
- Interpretation and communication of analytical results from field samples to aid reclamation planning
- All other duties, as necessary
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
Target Programs: Civil, Mining or Environmental Engineering
- Familiarity with software applications such as Excel, Minesight, and AutoCAD would be an asset
- Comfortable working with various occupations, including professionals, operations, trades, contractors etc.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- Reliable transportation to and from mine site
- Comfortable driving within a mine setting and working outdoors in various terrain and weather conditions
