ABOUT THE ROLE
We currently have an opportunity available on our team for a Labourer. Reporting directly to the Hydro Supervisor, you will assist in operating and maintaining the Seebe and/or Spray plants, based out of the Seebe office, about 80 km west of Calgary. You may also be asked to assist activities at other hydro generating stations within the province.
As a Labourer, you will lead and coordinate activities within a 0-3 month time span and is accountable to ensure the safe, compliant, and reliable operation and maintenance of these Hydro plants.
This role is based out of Seebe, Alberta, and is a full-time safety sensitive position. The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.

This is a union position and covered under the terms of the Collective Agreement with the IBEW, Local 254.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Assist operations and maintenance staff to complete routine checks and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment
- Assist in the planning, coordination and execution of work
- Enter notifications and give feedback and updates on preventative maintenance plans
- Interface with Engineering, and other Internal Stakeholders
- Maintaining competence and training to perform all work safely
- Perform readings of dam safety instrumentation (Hydro Technologist)
- Perform physical labour and general plant clean-up duties
- Perform operation of equipment; forklift, skid steer, loader etc.
- Supervise contractors as per TransAlta contractor supervision procedure
- Accountable to complete all administrative tasks as per TransAlta policies, procedures and processes
- Responsible to work collaboratively with team, peers, stakeholders and support groups to ensure issues are resolved in a professional and productive manner
- Accountable to uphold TransAlta values, thereby maintaining and enhancing reputation and stakeholder relations
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills
- Technical knowledge of power generating assets
- Must be able to work safely and effectively on your own and in a team environment with minimal supervision
- Basic computer skills (Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.)
- Willingness to learn, and work within all TransAlta Environmental Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
- Demonstrated ability to identify and implement productivity improvement initiatives
- Proven ability to capture and apply lessons learned
- Demonstrates ownership and commitment to delivering business outcomes and benefits. Holds self-responsible for problems and delivery of results
- Ability to stay calm under pressure - obtains timely input before making decisions
- Demonstrates a positive and proactive attitude towards change
